Two Ways: Peach Longline Blazer

Mar 13, 2012

Blazer: Fluid Longline Blazer (TopShop, $130)

From the Left, Earrings: Rose Quartz Earrings ($125) Watch: Rose Gold Watch ($250) Bag: Portfolio Clutch ($36) Shoes: Kira Pump ($89) Top: Pussybow Blouse ($98) Pants: Milano Pant ($163)

From the Right, Earrings: Gold Fleur Earrings ($75) Ring: similar Coral Ring ($72) Bag: Zara City Bag ($70) Shoes: Kate Spade Wedges ($328) Top: Pintuck Blouse ($18) Jeans: Hudson Skinny Jeans ($143)

For the Office. Monochrome and tonal looks are very big this season. Personally, I’m looking forward to a lot of all white (All Hail the Tide Pen!) and a lot of all grey.  But this ivory and peach look has a similar quality to it that is both soft and chic.

Here, I mixed the peach with rose gold and rose quartz to build a similar color palette.  I wanted to do a nude shoe, but thought this ivory/grey snake print might be a little less jarring against the pants.   I also chose a clutch with a rosy, tan color to keep it all in the same color family.

As for the hair, you’ll want to wear it up in a low bun or French twist.  With necklines like these, up is always better.  For the makeup, I’d choose a rose blush, a gold/taupe eye color and either a nude gloss or a mid-range, rosy pink matte lipstick.  Don’t forget to fill in your brows, as well.  When wearing pale colors brows are very important, as they give definition to your features. Oh, and mascara.  Lots of mascara.

For Brunch.  While D.C. is already in the upper-70s, the rest of the country might actually see spring-like weather, and I think a silk blazer and white jeans is a great weekend look for mild weather.  So all my Seattle and Portland and San Fran friends, this one is for you.

This little blouse is a great buy at $18.  No, it’s not the most well-made piece on the planet, but that’s because it costs as much as a business lunch.  If you get between three and 10 wears out of it, you’re golden.

Quality fo the blouse aside, the pattern and color pair perfectly with the light blazer.  Just enough contrasting dark without being overwhelming.  And I added a pop of coral on th sandal (to die for, right?) and the ring.  The accessories just give it a little something more.

For the hair, I would say down and wavy or up in a bouncy, middle-high ponytail.  For the makeup, try a bright-but-not-neon lip color and pale pink blush.  I’m also recommend a touch of bronzer.  If you need tips on how to apply bronzer, see this previous post.  Hint: Snooki does it all wrong.

    Hi Belle,

Could you provide the link to those rose quartz earrings? The link place appears to be incorrect. Thanks!

Belle, I know the white only between Memorial Day and Labor Day is a little dated (at least I hope it is), but is it acceptable to already be wearing white pants? What's your rule of thumb on that, especially in an office (I work at a very casual ad agency, so everything kind of goes whenever, but I still like to be professional/on trend/seasonal). Thanks!

There is no day in a year when I wouldn't wear white separates. I would just vary what I wear with them. I would NOT wear white shoes, however, except in summer.

LOVE the rose gold MK watch. Though, I'm starting to get quite the collection…any other watch brands/styles striking your fancy these days?

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

Before we start today’s reader questions, I wanted to take a moment to talk a bit about mental health. For those who experience mental health challenges — whether occasionally or frequently — talking about our struggles is a double-edged sword.
