Two Ways: DV Purple Pumps

Mar 1, 2012

Shoe: Dolve Vita Notty Pumps ($45-$79)

From the Left, Sunglasses: Marc Jacobs Cat’s Eye Sunnies ($98) Bracelet: Heart of Gold Idiom Bangle ($32) Bag: Tory Burch Robinson Clutch ($325) Coat: Vince Camuto Trench ($138) Blouse: Rosetta Blouse ($200) Skirt: Desirable Skirt ($198)

From the Right, Sunglasses: Ray Ban Aviator ($139) Bag: Michael Kors Saddle Bag ($244Jeans: Curve ID Skinny Jeans ($68) Necklace: Ben Amun Radiant Sun Pendant ($195) Sweater: Theory Efina Sweater ($295)

For the Office.  A friend asked me to create a look using the green, pleated skirt that she just bought.  Here, I paired it with a simple blouse and the purple pumps because I don’t think women should be afraid to mix colors, but for work, it should be done in moderation. Besides, I just really like purple and green together.

I also added a trench for those slightly chilly spring days, not that we’ve been having many of those lately.  To complement the purple shoes and green skirt, I could have done a grey or cognac bag, but I decide to work in a hint of tangerine.  This is the second appearance for this clutch on the blog, so here’s hoping someone comes up with a lower-priced version soon.

A thin bangle is a really great, subtle accessory for spring.  I’d keep the earrings simple as well with little gold/diamond or pearl studs.  And of course, we can’t be without a cool pair of sunnies.  I like the cat’s eye frames, but they are too big for some faces, so consider yourselves warned.

For the hair, I would try loose waves, teased at the crown.  And for the makeup, I would keep it neutral since there is already so much color.  A natural lip and slightly metallic shadows in taupe and gold should be plenty.

For a Concert.  I don’t go to many concerts, so I’m never sure what to wear.  Recently, I saw a woman at a small event wearing something similar to this and it seemed to me to be just the right mix of casual and dressed for the occasion.

The sweater is a bit oversized, which pairs nicely with the skinny jeans.  I also like the mix of purple and coral for spring.  These jeans are from the Curve ID line from Levi’s, I’ve had a few friends recommend them to me as the best under-$100 jeans on the market, but I haven’t tried them yet.

A simple bag and aviators give the look a bit of California cool.  The long necklace in shimmering gold adds just the right amount of pop to break up the sweater.

For the hair, I would either wear it down in a messy wave or up in a low, side, wavy, messy chignon.  For the makeup, I’d pump up the lips by mixing a rose gloss with a coral lipstick, so I got just a hint of coral and some pretty pink.  You don’t want to match your sweater too perfectly.  I’d also do a strong liner on the eye with a shimmery wash shadow.

I see the thought process here and I like where your head's at, but purple and green will forever remind me of a big purple dinosaur. The concert look is great though!

Love the Rosetta blouse! Has anyone found a lower priced alternative?? That is not shipped internationally??

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
