Zoya Contest: Belle Needs Your Help

Feb 8, 2012

Last night, I logged onto Facebook and confronted the horror.  In 24 hours, my entry in the Zoya + Birchbox nail polish contest had fallen from a comfortable second place to an also-ran fourth place, 400 votes behind third place and my shot at designing my own nail polish color.

So let me lay the guilt trip on you (why be subtle in such dire times?):

I work hard on this blog. I bleed and I toil trying to make Capitol Hill and workplaces everywhere more fashionable.  I give up sleep, free time and occasionally my tenuous grasp on my sanity to provide you with three posts per day.  I buy giveaway items, offer career advice and personally respond to 80% of the emails I receive (Sorry other 20%, I’m working on it).  And I love writing this blog, so I hope it isn’t too much to ask for a small favor in return.

I desperately want to open my Birchbox in April and discover my special nail polish shade hiding under the hot pink tissue paper.  I want to send my Mother a bottle and watch her paint her enviably long fingernails with it.  I want to be able to give bottles away to my readers, and see the coppery-coral on some Staffer’s nails and think, “Oh my God, she’s wearing my shade!”

So please, gentlemen and ladies, go to Facebook and vote for Belle’s Blushing Penny as one of Zoya’s spring colors for Birchbox.  You first need to like Birchbox to proceed, but you can always unlike them later.  We may be 400 votes down as of midnight, but I hope you’ll help me stage an epic comeback.

I always tell people that I have the best readers, because I do.  You have been so supportive of this site and of me, and I just hope that you’ll take a minute to go vote.  And remember, you can vote once per day, so if you already voted, please vote again.

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
