New Year's Eve 2011: Flare Leg Jeans

Dec 28, 2011

From Left, Earrings: Empress Earrings ($68) Bag: House of Harlow Clutch ($225) Shoes: Jair Pump ($118) Top: Reiss Dominique Top ($115) Corset: Boned Corset ($128)

From Right, Earrings: Martha Studs ($75) Bag: Belstaff Hobo ($440) Shoes: Lanvin Pewter Flats ($515) Sweater: Nicholas K Shelton Crop ($239) Top: American Vintage Tank ($60)

Rock Royalty.  So let’s say that you want to go a little crazy this New Year.  Why not grab your slimmest black satin corset and wear it under a sheer blouse, like this dotted one from Reiss?  Add a pair of platform pumps and a rocking, studded clutch, and you’re all set for a night on the town.

Hair and makeup needs to be bold.  Try a bright red lip, winged eyeliner and a subtle cheek.  Also, you’ll need about 12 coats of mascara.  As for the hair, make it curly, tease it up a bit at the crown and try for your best Adele, yes-my-hair-is-a-wild-animal look.  Also, red nails. Very important.

Because sometimes, it’s fun to go out on the town as someone a little bit different than yourself.

Comfy Cool.  Maybe you don’t want to paint the town red in your platform pumps.  Maybe you just want to chill on the couch and play board games and eat an assortment of hors d’oeuvre.  Who am I to judge?

I’ve loved this cropped sweater/jacket thing for months, and have been searching for a reason to put it on the blog.  It’s cozy and still chic.  Who knew such a thing was possible?

Wear it over a basic tank.  This one from American Vintage is hands down the best one on the market.  Add a pair of foot-friendly metallic flats, a hobo bag and a pair of slightly edgy studs and you can ring in the New Year from the comfort of your couch in style.

  1. Lucy R. says:

As someone who is “vertically challenged” I always feel like flares make me look a little funny, should I stick with a smaller boot cut or is there a secret to rocking a flared leg at under 5'2″??

  2. Belle says:

Lucy- I've seen people in “slim” flare or “skinny” flare jeans. They're slimmer in the thigh, so that might help. If you still think they weigh you down, I'd stick with a bootcut.

  3. KLo says:

Lucy: if it matters, I've found that at 5'5″ a trouser jean achieves a really similar look to flares, but makes my legs look twice as long. I think it's the bell/boot cut shape that cuts the leg line & makes my legs look shorter.

That said, I adore both of these outfits!

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
