I spotted this look on Pinterest and decided to wear it to a holiday party this weekend. The video tutorial is a bit long, and the instructor is a bit…well, young, but the look is classic: a shimmery eye, a light pink cheek and a bold, red lip.
For my look, I decided to make a few changes. Instead of silver, I went with gold. I have olive skin and the silver made me look a bit like I had escaped from Fairyland. I also skipped the false eyelashes, not because I can’t apply them, but because when I wear them, I can’t control the blinking. The rapid beating of my lashes sounds like a flock of tiny birds taking flight.
Here are the products that I used for my makeup. The look was easy to apply and just the right amount of holiday shimmer and spice without looking too overdone.
Too Faced Shadow Insurance and Glitter Glue ($18). Will hold your shadow in place and help affix the glitter. I love a multitasker.
Bobbi Brown Party Shimmer Brick ($40). Whether you choose gold or silver for your look, this is a great base shadow. It’s light if you want to be, but it’s also buildable.
Gold Glitter Shadow. The instructor in the video recommends M.A.C. pigments, but those things cost much more than I want to pay for a party look. So I went to CVS and found some gold glitter from one of the drugstore brands, I think I paid $4.
Stila Stay All Day Liquid Liner ($20). This is one of my new favorite products. It took a while to learn how to apply it perfectly, but once you get the hang of it, it’s really easy to use and gives a razor sharp line.
Cover Girl Lashblast Fusion ($8). This is my current favorite mascara because it provides length and volume. Just make sure you get the Very Black, regular black is not terribly dark.
I think the rapid blinking is the point of the fake lashes, no? coquettish
But wait, Belle – what lip product/color did you use?
That Stila liquid liner is one of the best things that has ever happened to me, I fully concur with your assessment.
Ditto HH – lip and blush please Belle!
Another ditto! The lip and blush are crucial…
The blush was Bobbi Brown Pale Pink applied with a fan brush. The lipstick was Chanel Gabrielle, but I also like MAC Ruby Woo.
Belle: thank you for providing the lip and cheek colors that you wore. I'm on the hunt for a red lip color, so I was especially curious.
