BPGP: DIY Microderambrasion

Nov 14, 2011

If I still lived out West, the Land of Reasonably Priced Beauty Treatments, I would have microdermabrasion once a month.  However, I live in Washington, D.C., where I can’t even afford to think about having microdermabrasion. $150 a treatment, are you kidding me?  Luckily, like most beauty treatments, there is a do-it-yourself version.

This beauty treatment couldn’t be simpler.  Just mix 3 parts baking soda (Arm & Hammer) with 1 part filtered water.  Stir until it forms a paste.

Now, rub the baking soda concoction onto your face in a circular motion.  I find it’s helpful to start with the cheeks and forehead and then, work your way to the nose and the chin.  Allow the paste to sit on the skin for 30 seconds.  Then rinse with tepid water.

You do not want to use hot or even warm water because it will make the skin too sensitive, and you do not want to use cold water because it will seal up your pores.  Tepid is best.

You will not believe how fresh your skin looks the next day, and I was blown away by how soft my skin felt.  Baking soda and water, who knew?

    I love this. Wanna know another trick? Use this concoction with a baby hair brush (you know the kind that is tiny and the bristles are soft?) Rotate the brush in circles around the face and neck. It's the Clarisonic on a budget 🙂 {$2 versus $200}

    I second this tip, I've been using baking soda for years and keep it in the shower in a little plastic bottle. I personally mix mine with Cetaphil as my every day scrub. I've even turned my husband onto this trick. 🙂

    You can apply the same concoction to wet hair to remove hair product build up!

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
