Ask Belle: iPad Cases

Oct 27, 2011

Dear Belle-

My parents bought me an iPad2 as a gift, and I need a case for it.  I don’t want to spend more than $100, but I’d like something chic.  Any ideas?

Kacy

I had the same problem when I bought my iPad this summer.  It seemed like all of the cases that I wanted to buy cost almost as much as I paid for the iPad.  Not a fiscally responsible option, to say that least.  Also, most of the things in my price range were either gaudy, cheaply made or just screamed “I’m carrying a tablet. Please, rob me on the Metro.”

Dodo Case for iPad2 (J.Crew, $59.95)

Eventually, I settled on the Dodo Case.  First off, I love that it looks more like I’m carrying a Moleskine notebook than an iPad. That kind of discretion is important when I’m on public transportation or when I bring the iPad into a meeting.

Secondly, the case is lightweight but sturdy.  I don’t know how much help it would be if you actually dropped it, but it protects it from scratches and other damage when it jostles around in my purse.

If you prefer something that isn’t black, they have a few other designs and prints to choose from.  I especially love the dove grey and charcoal “sailcloth” model on the J.Crew site. Dodo also makes cases for Kindles

If you’re looking for something with a bit more sparkle, I also love this Juicy Couture gold glitter iPad case ($68).  It’s on the complete opposite end of the spectrum from the Dodo Case, but it’s still pretty sweet.  It also comes in silver or black glitter if you prefer.

The Missoni for Target line has a leather iPad case…. and believe it or not, it's actually in stock online!

I actually just bought the “Morris Lessmore” case from Dodo and I love it! It is just glorious. I love that it really does look like a book. My only complaint is I bought it one day before they started offering monograms…

I have an ipad case from JessLC, and they are fantastic, plus she runs a fantastic blog and personally follows up with an email if anything with your order is changed.

Check out Pad and Quill — they also look like moleskin notebooks, but their contega case (while a little more expensive than the Dodo case) has some extra features that are really great. (the cover as a stand, a pocket, etc)

I am going to second JessLC!

Have you checked etsy.com yet? There are so many vendors. I found a really super sleeve for my macbook air there. Sometimes the prices are a little better too.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
