Happy Hour: Pink October

Oct 14, 2011

The Atlantique from The Intoxicologist

1-1/2 part Vodka

1/2 part Fresh Lemon Juice

1/2 part Chambord

1/4 part Peach Schnapps

Peach Slice Garnish

Combine liquid ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice.  Shake to blend and chill.  Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.  Garnish with peach slice on the rim of glass.  Lemon twist may be substituted.

Every October, a former professor of mine (a breast cancer survivor) hosts a house party/fundraiser for Komen for the Cure.  This year, she asked me for a cocktail that was “pink and fruity,” but didn’t use the too-sweet-to-handle p.i.n.k. vodka that most cocktails employ.  So, if you’re planning to have or attend a breast cancer awareness event, this cocktail is the perfect libation.

Asos Pleated Midi-Dress (Asos, $74)

In keeping with the theme of the week, the dress is under $75.  It’s also the perfect layering piece for Fall.  Add a belt.  Wear it with tights.  Put on a cardigan or a blazer.  Wear it under a sweater so that you can just see the skirt.  Or glam it up with a sequin sash and drop earrings.  Dealer’s choice.

Happy Hour

This weekend, I got two hours to myself for the first time in months. Really to myself. My child was asleep. My dogs were asleep. Kyle was off playing cards with his friends. My house was clean, and there was nothing else to do but sit in my bed and scroll Instagram. It was glorious. […]

The Counter: The Post-Product Era

When I was in my 20s, I bought every trendy nail polish, eye color, and lip gloss.  Sure, I could only wear them on the weekends, but why not wear emerald green liner?  In my 30s, I became enamored with skincare and took every “must-have” product for a spin.  But in my 40s, my skin […]
