A girlfriend texted me Saturday with a question that was uniquely D.C. Her office is no longer suits and sheath dresses, but it’s not jeans and athleisure either. “Can an office be ‘semi-formal’?,” she pondered. “What do I wear for that?!” Enter the shirtdress, the solution for summer.
Welcome to the warm weather months. Outside, you will roast. Inside, you will freeze. The air conditioning will be your constant nemesis, as it “conditions” the air to a temperature that is primarily suitable for men. Luckily, this cardigan can keep you warm even when your fiery resentment wanes.
Nora Ephron was right: I feel bad about my neck. As I move through my forties, the creases have turned into chasms. The skin sags like a pair of sweatpants with aging elastic. It’s not great. But it’s just a natural part of getting older. Over the past year, it feels like I’ve tried every […]

This week has been an absolute bear, so let’s reach into the reader mail bag and answer some questions. And let’s start with a post about affordable summer bags.
Belle, I was wondering when these were going to arrive on the blog! However, as much as I've seen them worn well, I've also seen some minor disasters walking to the DC streets in these. Perhaps a what to do and what NOT to do is in order?
I just bought a pair! Love them! I agree with Danae, some tips on wearing them well would be much appreciated.
Just an interesting piece of trivia, this type of two toned boot is traditionally a man's boot. It designates a man entitled to wear the colors of his hunt. A lady awarded colors wears black boot with black patent tops. No that it matters for fashion but my family rides and both my father and husband always point this out when they see this type of boot on women so I always wear solid boots. It made me smile when I saw these today. Have a great week!
A question for all readers – can you speak to the quality of Banana Republic shoes? I typically don't buy shoes from stores that are primarily clothing stores because I worry the quality will be sub-par.
@E, I have no idea how BR shoes are (any shoes that aren't leather always make me a little nervous). If you're looking for a similar boot in a similar price range as the pair Belle posted from BR but in a little better quality, take a look at these from DSW

I snapped up the Ariat boots from Endless for only $153 today!
