Now, we’ve come to the end of our Emmy coverage.  And to lead us down the home stretch, we have several lovely ladies in even lovelier gowns.  

Okay, we have five lovely ladies and one chick who dated Marilyn Manson and butchered one of my favorite Beatles’ songs.

Evan Rachel Wood in Elie Saab

This is the second time that I’ve been forced to feature ERW.  I need to rewrite the rules to prevent a third time.  We call that The Bachelor rule, when the producers are “consulted” to ensure good ratings and that a little piece of Belle’s soul doesn’t die every time she puts together a best dressed list.

Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang

This dress is the perfect swan song for Summer’s most-beloved shade, coral.  It simply fits like a dream, emphasizing in all the right places and capturing Sofia’s ebullient spirit.

Yes, ebullient was yesterday’s word of the day.

Emily Blunt in Elie Saab

I was so in love with Elie Saab’s Autumn/Winter collection, and I am so jealous that EB actually gets to wear one of his gowns.  I’m also jealous that she’s married to John Krasinski.  

Nina Dobrev in Donna Karan

The construction on this gown is really incredible.  And initially, I thought the origami folds were a bit tired, but the dress is so perfectly tailored that I was forced to change my mind.

Also pushing this gown onto the list, the fact that seconds after Lea Michele showed up in her very hyped, lipstick red Marchesa, that was clearly supposed to steal the show, Dobrev showed up this gown and snatched it away.  Don’t think Lea noticed?  Go back and watch her interviews she looks seriously perturbed by the wealth of red gowns, all of them more fabulous than hers.  

The Blonde Charlie’s Angel in Armani Prive

This award is not so much for the dress–even though it’s fabulous.  No, this award is for that impossibly fierce bob.  It is so difficult to do short hair, especially short hair for evening, but Rachael (?) really pulls it off.

The shockingly-toned arms and killer body probably don’t hurt either.

Now, prepare yourselves for my favorite look of the night, because it’s a bit of a shocker.  Well, at least it surprised me…

Lena Headey in No one seems to know, and it’s a shame

Originally, I had this dress in the Almost-Worst Dressed pile.  Then, I moved it to the Runner Up pile.  And now, here it is, my favorite look of the night.  Sometimes the more you look at a gown, the more you appreciate it.

First off, the fit is impeccable.  Secondly, I don’t know how a black dress (!) in such a simple silhouette brings the drama in such a big way.

Lastly, much like the strapless look above, this award isn’t just for the gown. The overall look is chic and modern.  The jewelry is bold and sparkling, but not frilly.  And the makeup was not only perfectly chosen, it was perfectly applied.

I wonder how many women will take this photo to their hairdressers this week?
