State of the Blog: [headdesk]

Sep 12, 2011

It was one of those weekends.  The Internet was down for half the day on Saturday.  Then Squarespace was doing maintenance.  Then it was 9/11, and writing a fashion blog just didn’t have the momentum to climb to the top of my to do list like it usually does.  So now, I’m writing this post, on the fly, from my iPad.

Ask Belle will be moved to Thursday and will feature some helpful advice about rain attire.  After last week’s monsoon, it’s the least that I can do.  It will also feature some important advice about wearing capes.  Mostly because I’ve seen one too many women who don’t so much wear the cape as the cape wears them.

Since I already had this photo saved to my iPad, I thought I would share the current front runner for my favorite NYFW ensemble:

This looks is painfully chic, like Anna Wintour does Hollywood heiress.  Perfect for the glamorous woman with a serious job.

I love the way the blouse fits.  It’s sexy and fitted but ladylike and unrevealing.  The jacket falls off the shoulders just so, and the tortoise sandals and wayfarers lift it to a level of casual elegance that I didn’t know was possible outside of a black and white movie.

I’m so in love with it, I spent an hour on yelp reading reviews of local seamstresses in the hopes of finding someone who could recreate it.  Oh, be still my beating heart.

What designer is this from? Love.

  2. Belle says:

Apologies, kind of important to mention, it's that fierce little munchkin Christian Soriano.

I'm actually getting ready to have a cape made for me later this week, so I'll guess I'll hold off until Friday to finalize plans with my tailor.

This is a bit off topic, but how much do you like your iPad? I'm considering getting one, but public access wifi is still super limited in my area. I don't see the point of getting one and only using it at home or work, when I could use my laptop.

    The outfit is perfection!

Belle — If you find a good seamstress nearby, could you let your fellow DC-ers know? I have a vintage wool coat I wanted to have altered for this winter. And the idea of copying the FW designs is brilliant.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
