Three Ways: Grey TopShop Blouse

I see a lot of women walking around Capitol Hill in tweed business suits.  This is wrong.  Like its patterned pal seersucker, tweed should be worn one piece at a time.  Either the blazer or the skirt, not both.

Here, I paired the studded tweed jacket with a simple pencil skirt and coordinating blouse.  Add a sassy earring, a structured bag and a purple shoe and you’re ready for the office.

Last week, I received a reader e-mail asking how to transition from the office to cocktail hour.  So this outfit has the same foundation pieces as the first look, but I removed the jacket and switched up some of the accessories to make it appropriate for a night out.

The small, grey clutch can be carried in your larger work bag on the way to work, and then your larger bag can be left in your desk after work.  Mix the purple pumps with a strong, cuff bracelet with a lavender stone for a chic combo.

Add some more eyeliner, a touch of lipstick and a spritz of perfume and you’re ready to hit the happy hour.

I like to dress up for brunch, probably because I would rather go out for Sunday brunch than go out for Saturday cocktails.  I know, I’m weird.  But this outfit is perfect for sipping Mimosa on the patio while enjoying a generous slab of French toast.

I loved this printed skirt the second I saw it, so I decided to play up its best features.  The grey blouse pulls the grey from the floral print.  The orange bag and orange bracelet pull from the prints colorful details.

Add in a funky earring (I’ve featured these before, and I still love them), a simple slingback flat and a pair of cool sunglasses and call it a day.  You’ll be the best looking lady at brunch, esp. since DC women wear Juicy Couture sweats to brunch.  So keep me from weeping into my Mimosa and dress up.

    Love the grey/purple color combination!

    Love all the outfits!!!

  3. The clothes are great, but I'm really loving the accessories on this post. The earrings in “for the office” and the purple Kate Spade pumps especially!

  4. Ms. B says:

All the looks are great! But that office set is spot on.

  5. Amelia Bedelia says:

I must own this blouse. Hs anyone bought from topshop to speak about fit and sizing and quality???

  6. Sara says:

I totally share your sentiments re: brunch. I love all three outfits, but I am in love with the tweed jacket! Thankfully, it's out of stock, since it is way out of my price range.

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.

Too Many Tabs: April 19, 2024

This week, I fell mindlessly into my phone more than I think I ever have. My screen time went from 3.5 hours per day to 5 hours per day. But the increased eye strain did lead to some good finds. Just going to leave this right here.  (I really need to work on “Didn’t make […]
