Pre-Fall 2011: Striped Tee

Aug 15, 2011

Polyvore Set Here.

Everyone loved this skirt last week, so I thought that I would use it again.  Here, I paired it with the navy tee and a short-sleeved blouse for a work look that is both preppy and pulled together.  I would tuck the white shirt in, and you could also tuck in the sweater if you wanted to add a wide belt at the top of the skirt.

For jewelry, I wanted a color that would play up the brightness of the skirt and compliment the navy, so I chose turquoise.  Paired with a gold stud earring, this necklace dresses up the ensemble for work. If you skip the necklace and add a grey tight and grey flat boot, you could wear it on a casual day.

Lastly, since it’s pre-Fall I added a trench coat and patent leather pumps.  But if you wanted to take the academic prepster look to the next level, you could wear a camel or navy schoolboy blazer and brown flat boots.   I might also add a cream scarf and a beige ballet flat if I wanted to wear this look on the plane or on a casual Friday.  The point being that three foundation pieces (skirt, blouse, striped tee) are very versatile and can be more glamorous or more casual depending on your mood or occasion.

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
