Belle's Weekly Reading: Cross Country Edition

Aug 15, 2011

Coast to Coast.  Thanks to a reader suggestion, I just discovered the blog Atlantic-Pacific.  Much like The Glamourai, Blair has a very versatile look that shows you eclectic ways to mix the trends.

One of my favorite looks is this 70s-glam maxi-dress with wedges and chunky jewelry.  The ensemble is perfect for a garden party or a night out on the town.  No wonder Polyvore readers selected Blair as their most-coveted closet.

Fight the Bounce.  Last summer, we discussed the need for a supportive sports bra because bounce can damage your breast tissue and cause sagging.  And sagging is bad.  It seems that scientists in Britain have developed a sports bra that eliminates 83% of the bounce.  Good job, science.

Color Guard.  To spare my hair color, I alternate wash days and use dry shampoo on the alternate mornings.  But a reader pointed me in the direction of Une Femme and her review of Leonor Greyl cleansing milk.  The product eliminates oil, lifts the roots and smells like bananas.

Azteca.  Tribal and Aztec prints are on trend right now.  To be honest, they never really appealed to me, until I saw this post from Sofia’s Journal.  Maybe I need a wrist full of Aztec-inspired bangles…or maybe just this brightly-colored locket from Etsy.

Autumn Nails.  Mizhattan has the scoop on Essie’s Fall 2011 Collection filled with earth tones and deep hues.  I also love these ombre nails in greige, dark teal, pink and orange, though you could do them with any color.

If you want a little sparkle, the Glitter Guide has a tutorial on how to give yourself an ombre look using gold glitter.  And you know how I feel about glitter!

Or if you want something really different, how about transferring newsprint onto your nails? That’s right, you can transfer the type from newsprint to create a cool pattern, see the tutorial above.

That’s all for this week. Want to know what else I’m reading? Follow me on Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest.

This should also serve as a reminder that I will be choosing the winner of the Birchbox giveaway at midnight tonight.  So get those entries in today!

  1. Agreed, Blair is awesome. BTW, loving the new look of the blog, Belle!

  2. Sam says:

I just posted on my own blog (https://thingsicovet.tumblr.com/) about my current obsession with tribal inspired everything. One of the things I'm loving about this trend is that you can purchase really beautiful items minus a huge price tag. This is especially true when traveling out West or abroad with trips to open air or flea markets. Also, loving the nail design featured in Sofia's Journal.

  3. Sara B says:

Thanks for the link to my blog! (ombre nails). And Atlantic Pacific is one of my absolute favorite style blogs as well! xoxo

  4. Maria says:

Any word on who won the August Birchbox giveaway?

  5. kim says:

Re aztec – it's like you're in my head!!!

  6. Belle says:

Maria- Check back on Thursday. I'm swamped this week, so I needed to push it back a bit because I am not looking forward to counting the entries.

  7. Maria says:

Thanks, Belle! The first week back from vacation is always a little overwhelming – hang in there 🙂
