Belle's Style Evolution Begins

Aug 4, 2011

Recently, I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to be turning 30 in a few months.  Mostly, I’ve been thinking that it’s time for my wardrobe to get a bit of an upgrade.

As my career progresses and I grow older, I think it’s time for me to lower the volume on my girly, ruffley, sequined wardrobe a bit in favor of something a bit more tailored and polished.  Because as you change, your wardrobe should change as well.

I think it will probably take me about a year to integrate enough pieces into my wardrobe that fit my new, sleeker aesthetic.  But these are some of the pieces that I am looking for, though not necessarily at these prices.

Polyvore Set Here.

Style should be an evolution.  If you’ve had the same look for more than five years, it’s time for a change.  So I’m going to spend some time this week cleaning out some of the younger pieces in my wardrobe to make room for the pieces I want to accrue over the next year.  We’ll see if I get there.

Can you put your “younger pieces” in the Resale Salon!?

Hi, I recently did this when I turned 40 for the same reason. It's a good idea to continue to evolve!

What a great excuse for a wardrobe makeover! Great picks – I especially love the the PS blazer and white-black shift dress.

I am still only in my late 20's but my favorite accessory is a watch. I currently own the tortoise shell watch above, as well as the all gold one. My female boss owns the all white version. The size has a masculine feel to it, but i leave it loose to feel more like a bracelet/jewelry.

I'm trying to do this too – just make the transition from college to professional. Do you have any suggestions on how to pick out the pieces in your wardrobe you are too old for?

As someone who's also about to hit to big 3-0 in a few short months (gulp), I've been thinking I need to do the same thing. So glad to see that I'm not alone! love the pieces you selected. ps – I got a MK watch for Christmas last year and absolutely LOVE it! I wear it every single day. I went with the two-tone silver and gold chronograph and wear it with everything. I found it a little move versatile than the tortoise, but I loved it, too! Hope you're enjoying recess!

    I second A's motion!

This is a great post. When I turned 30 I definitely made my wardrobe more polished. When we're in session my outfit must have a jacket and heels. I save wrap dresses, cardigan/skirt combos, and flats for recess. I also changed my makeup after 30. I wear lipstick every day and make sure my eyebrows and eyeliner are perfect. Your skin just doesn't have the same natural glow, you need the lipstick and eyebrows or your face looks washed out. I also think some of the jewelry trends girls wear look young, but maybe that's just a personal preference.
