BPGP: ybf Universal Eyebrow Pencil

Aug 3, 2011

Last week, Miss M and I were enjoying a cocktail at the W Hotel when she turned to me and said, “Your eyebrows look really good.”

I’ve long preached that well-groomed eyebrows are a beauty essential. Tweezing is important, but filling in the eyebrows with a pencil is critical.  And after a delivery from Birchbox, I am convinced that the very best eyebrow pencil on the market is the ybf Universal Eyebrow Pencil ($20 for two).

First off, the pencil tip is shaped to create feather-like strokes.  This is perfect for filling in your eyebrows to look strong but natural.

The pencil also has a twist, so you never have to sharpen.  No muss, no fuss, no searching for the sharpener in the bottom of the junk drawer.

The pencil also does double duty.  On the other end, you have a brow groomer that tames unruly hairs and perfectly shapes the brows.

Also, I don’t know how they did it, but the taupe eyebrow pencil looks fabulous on every woman regardless of hair color.  Blonde, brunette, or redhead, you can all use this pencil.  The trick is to apply the product at different pressures.  The harder you press, the darker the color.

There are few products in my makeup bag that I know I will be using five years from now.  This pencil is one of them.  I highly suggest you pick one up.

I love your blog, but your rampant misuse of your/you're and there/their has been driving me crazy. Your grammatical errors combined with your snooty tone has started to really turn me off of a blog I really want to enjoy.

  2. Belle says:

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: If grammar is so important to you that you can't stand to see typos on a blog you read for free, then spare yourself and find a blog where the editor has better grammar. Same goes for the snooty tone.

  3. Rebecca says:

geez grammar girl! Chill out! Belle puts a lot of time and effort into this blog while working a FULL TIME JOB! And she works on the Hill…so its no 9-5 job, I'm sure. Its a fashion BLOG, not a published novel.

  4. Belle says:

Also, credit where it's due, I wanted to say that grammar girl left the first comment criticizing my grammar that did not contain a serious grammatical error. So props on that.

Look, ladies, I know my grammar (esp. my use of homophones and commas) could be better. I'm working on it. If you've been reading the blog for awhile, you might remember the heady days of 2008 when I didn't even spellcheck. If I see a typo, I always go back and fix it, but because I write like I speak, I tend to read right over them.

  5. annalou says:

Seriously, grammar girl? I work as a full-time editor for my job, and I still make grammar mistakes on my personal blog. After 9 straight hours of analyzing spelling and punctuation, the last thing I want to do at night is proofread my just-for-fun ramblings.

  6. Oedipa says:

I find nothing snooty about sharing style tips that usually save readers both time and money, and I'm definitely buying these pencils.

And grammar girl…”[errors and tone] have started,” not “has started.” Nobody's perfect.

  7. Jennelle says:

I confess, I am afraid to take a pencil to my brows for fear that I'll look like one of those old ladies with completely drawn on brows. And, I really need to take a pencil to them. Case in point, family portrait back in May had me looking like I had cartooney half eye brows, as I have light brown/blond hair and the ends are admittedly overplucked and get lost in photos. I've been toying with the idea of buying the bare esscentuals brow filler, but maybe I'll try this product instead. I guess I just need to play around with it and get used to using these products, especially before the next time someone takes a pic of me…

  8. Valerie says:

My eyebrows are dark but I'm still considering getting a pencil with an eyebrow brush to make sure everything is tidy in additional to the usual grooming.

Also, I am a complete grammar snob, but love this blog. Sometimes smart/clever/thoughtful people just write with typos, and since they aren't trying to publish in the New York Times, it's more about the content and the message.

  9. Still_though says:

A typo? Sure. Everyone makes those. But when 'compliment' is used every single time instead of 'complement' (especially for a fashion blog where that term gets thrown around a lot), it's not really a typo. Just misuse of a word. But it's both a common mistake and an easy fix so you're golden.

  10. Dr. Jean Grey says:

Seriously, I wish you could just block idiots like Grammar Girl. If she can't bring herself to be subjected to an occasional typo then she has no business surfing the blogs. Get a life.

  11. ummm says:

There's nothing idiotic about knowing the difference between a possessive and a contraction. It's a fair thing to point out.

  12. R says:

    @grammar girl,

Without a doubt, content supersedes grammar. Generally such small-minds tend to reside in rather large heads.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
