Happy Hour: Midnight Madness

Pencey Colorblock Cutout Dress (Shopbop, $320)

Lord knows, I love a dress with drama in the back.  Mix that flair for the dramatic with a bright hue and the summer’s hottest trend (colorblocking) and my knees buckle.  And wearing this multi-hyphenate, sartorial wonder while sipping a tasty cocktail would be positively dreamy.

Midnight Mojito

Ingredients

Bunch mint leaves

12 fresh blackberries

1 tsp sugar

3 oz White Rum

1 oz lime juice

club soda

crushed ice

Instructions

In a pitcher, place the mint leaves, blackberries and sugar and muddle well. Add the rum and lime juice and stir well to combine.  Fill highball glasses with crushed ice and strain the drink into the glasses. Top it with club soda. Garnish with mint leaves and blackberries.

This is why I like you, Belle – your picks are so unpredictable! Maybe in another life I'll rock that dress . . .

Wow, really??! The front is ok (but not for my love handles), and I like the color combo, but the back is just straight up street walker.
    The mojito looks delish though!

Wow. I'm going to say no to this dress — It looks unfinished (lots of bunching/ruching in weird places) and confusing, as well as a little trashy. Also, is the model really stretched out vertically, or is it just me?

The cocktail, on the other hand, is something I could definitely try on for size.

This dress is fantastic. In this case, context is everything…there are definitely places (and ways) to wear this that don't relegate it to the “street corner”. Great change of pace! 🙂

I always love your picks…. but this one reminds me a little too much of one of Julia Roberts' hooker outfits in Pretty Woman:

Except that it's not a low-cut scoopneck, sleeveless, tie-dyed, micro-mini, white, held together with a metal ring or meant to be worn with thigh highs…but other than that…you're right, they're exactly the same.

This dress is no more salacious than a halter top, a deep scoop neck or a minidress.

Like annalou said it's about where you're wearing: Vegas, Miami, etc.
