Bright Color Block Dress (Lulu’s, $37)

I can’t attest to the quality of this piece, but I love the colorblocking.  I’d probably switch out the belt for something with a bit more structure.

I love the dress from the front, but I'm not so sure about the back being cut the same. I pretty much prefer my back to be covered – that way I'm less likely to have to wear a cardigan over it to work.

  2. Belle says:

This dress is not appropriate for work.

  3. Rebeca says:

So sad! There's only 3 left on the site, and they're all large 🙁 such a cute dress though!!

  4. Nina says:

I've never heard of this site before, but their stuff is cute and cheap (almost suspiciously cheap). Has anyone ordered from them before?

  5. Katie says:

wow! gorgeous dress! but but Belle, if you put on a cardi anything is work appropriate 😉

  6. Belle says:

    Katie…you're killing me softly here…;-)

    Re: Lulu's quality:

I have a pair of shoes from Lulu's (Soda ballet flats). Thy were really cheap (definitely under $15, maybe under $10), and made of synthetic materials. They were OK. I only wear them occasionally, but they have held up fine. As far as comfort, they are not Cole Haans with Nike Air, and little-to-no arch support, but comparable to shoes from Target or Payless. I wouldn't wear them if I had to walk long distances.

My friend has ordered clothes before. I would say the quality is comparable to Forever 21. So you probably don't want your entire work wardrobe to come from Lulu's, but for a piece or two (especially trendy items), it might be fun.

  8. CynthiaW says:

Not to make you scream, but even with the back, wearing that dress to work would make me more dressed up than 90% of the people I work with – I'm just not comfortable with the back (even if I'm not at work, actually). But I really do love it from the front and might need to either look for something similar or make something similar.

  9. Half-Pint says:

I don't think Belle is saying it isn't 'dressy' enough, it's that it is not WORK appropriate. 🙂

  10. CynthiaW says:

No – I get that. But people at my work show up in capris this time of year, as well as maxi dresses with cardigans. So I can see where it wouldn't be work appropriate in many more traditional offices, and I personally wouldn't wear it to work, but I could.

  11. Belle says:

What makes the dress inappropriate for work is the DEEP keyhole neckline. Not acceptable. I don't care if you wear a burqa over it, not acceptable for work.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
