State of the Blog: About This Week

Apr 19, 2011

Flip Flopper. I typically write more than half of my posts over the weekend.  In particular, I like to get the Polyvore sets done on the weekend because they’re time consuming.  Because I wasn’t feeling particularly upbeat this weekend, I didn’t finish any sets (panic!), and I don’t want to phone in Business Casual Week because I know how much work needs to be done in this area.  So after giving it some thought, I decided that I’m going to take a different course.

Initially, I had planned to make next week Ask Belle Week to clear out some of the queries that have been piling up in my inbox.  So what I’m going to do is just switch the weeks.  This way, there’s fresh content on the site, but I don’t feel like I’m failing you guys with less-than-helpful hints.

Searchable.  Just one more thing before we return to our regularly scheduled programming.

I know that there are a lot of new readers on the site, and that’s great.  Welcome.  But please, if you’re new, before you send me an e-mail that says, “What kind of mascara do you use?,” search for “mascara” in the search bar at right.

If you don’t find something or you don’t like what you find, feel free to send in a question.  But I seem to be getting the same questions over and over again.

Alright, that’s it for today.  Now, let’s empty out all of those Ask Belle’s, shall we?

I misread and thought you were going to finally address those hideous 'fit flops' and other ugly shape ups style shoes.

  2. Jessica says:

Sorry Belle! I see the error of my ways! I have found eBay week through your search bar and will be reviewing. Thanks.

  3. Rachel says:

Any suggestions for a dress to wear to a late spring wedding (black tie optional) for a petite lady? I've been searching Rent the Runway, but I'm nervous about using it for a big event! Any suggestions much appreciated — I love your blog!

  4. love it says:

Good plan! Thank you for being the most responsible, reliable blogger I know. : )

  5. Dr. Jean Grey says:

Some ideas: Thoughts on the appropriateness of wearing open toes, sleeveless, and crop pants to work in the summer. I know you have covered some of this. Maybe I need to search again, but this seems like a good general catch-all summer topic. Other brainstorms… What are the most versatile, best value fabrics? How much should one really spend on a very cute, but very polyester shirt? Would you care to address the skirt suit versus pant suit debate for women? How often is it really necessary to wear a suit? How can one dress to appear SMARTER, aside from throwing on some geek glasses. Is a female Hill staffer obligated to get a co-worker a baby shower gift and attend other baby-related functions? (That might be a doozy, but really, I think this is a problem).

I'm afraid the alternatives are either playing parrot, or just ignoring repeat questions. My experience is that people land on your blog from google searches for specific queries, but then instead of actually reading what you said, they prefer to ask you for a personal consultation. Like there are some secret things which you haven't told the public but will be happy to hand over to the persistent requester. Or they ask you to justify what you wrote. Or they just ask you to tell them shorter, quicker, because they don't have time to read your article. So, you know, it's not really worth bothering, especially as they're rarely satisfied with your further answers anyway :-).

  7. Terri says:

I love it when you answer your readers questions!

  8. CS says:

I love your blog and was wondering if you could do a post about sylish, durable and reasonably priced luggage?

  9. VA says:

It's wedding season and I would love to see some dress options for an outdoor summer wedding guest where the attire is “formal-ish”. Where's the sweet spot between light-and-airy-but-too-casual sundresses and appropriately-dressy-but-too-warm-and-uncomfortable cocktail dresses?

  10. aleuty says:

ooh I second the luggage request! I can't find any none-snooze-inducing pieces that are in a reasonable price point…

  11. Pleaseeee says:

Ohhh me too… Luggage! Luggage! Luggage! 🙂

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
