Three Ways: Coral Slingback Flats

Apr 5, 2011

I am a big believer that if you intend to wear flat shoes, they have to be cool flat shoes.  Because wearing boring flats should be criminal, like having the same haircut for more than two years running.

The coral flats from this morning are bright, fun and flirty.  They are the kind of shoes that aren’t perfect for every occasion, but if you wear them with conviction, they can be.

True, I would rather wear this dress with an orange high heel.  But sometimes, women don’t want to wear high heels.  You can wear cocktail with flats if you do it with gusto.  On the plus side, you can take a long, romantic walk after dinner without having to worry that you might be doing permanent damage to your feet.

Coral and turquoise is a bold and fashionable combination, but it’s much easier to accomplish than yellow and red or lime and purple because turquoise is used in accessories.  To let the accessories shine on their own, I chose neutral pieces in coordinating colors.

Sometimes, when we look at clothes, we don’t see the pieces, we see who we will be when we wear them.  When I look at this outfit, I see myself sitting on the dock of a cheap, seafood restaurant eating shrimp and sipping sweet tea while the ships roll in to the harbor.

these remind me of 1980s/90s bridesmaid dresses…but in shoes. gag. love the color and the idea but i think the execution is poor. that said, i love the outfit ideas…i'll just change out the shoes 🙂

I LOVE all three outfits. I would never look twice at those shoes, but I'm now seriously contemplating something similar.

I think that color is a lot more neutral than you'd think.
I could imagine it with fatigue green as well.

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
