Trendspotting: Menswear Inspired

Mar 30, 2011

While menswear-inspired looks have been on the trend lists for a couple of years now, I’ve never really gravitated that way.  I think there are two reasons for this: 1) I’m pear shaped, a body type that does better with a softer touch, and 2) I’ve never really seen menswear done in a way that appealed to me.  Until now.

Sexy and Tousled in Navy.

Sultry in Oxfords and a Pocket Square.

I was so inspired by this tailored and sexy photo spread courtesy of Elle Spain via Mizhattan, that I thought I might try my hand at a menswear look.  I’m not sure how successful I was, but I think this is one of those things where you just bring the clothes into the dressing room and try them on.  Then you mess with them, and fuss over them, folding and refolding the collar, switching shirts, changing shoes and rolling sleeves, until it looks perfect.  What?  I’m the only one who spends 30 minutes in the dressing room styling myself?

In a perfect world, I would have found an off-white, button down shirt with a pale grey print.  In the real world, I had to settle for a tie neck blouse and fuschia accessories.  Oh well.  And if you try this look (or something similar), the glasses and the pocket square are a must.  When going for a look, you should really go for it!  Even if you only do it once.  So dive in, and make sure to get a picture.

Belle – YOU CAN ROCK THE MENSWEAR LOOK. You + me = dinner, a trip to BBB for my Babaii hairspray, and some new outfits for you to wear to work utilizing this inspiration 😀

And oh honey, you are definitely NOT the only one who spends 30+ minutes styling in the dressing room. Duh, I'd actually be on time more often if I didn't do this in front of my bedroom mirror EVERY day (husband sighs with impatience).

Umm, M, where do you think I learned the stand in front of the mirror and jujj until it looks right? Hmmm…

I love love that shoe. I just bought them in the beige and love them. I got 3 compliments from strangers the first day I wore them. Added bonus: they're comfortable!
