When I was young, my favorite color was purple and I remember being incredibly jealous of Elizabeth Taylor when I learned that she had been born with violet-colored eyes. I was born with plain old hazel, it hardly seemed fair. Luckily, a violet, one-shoulder dress with origami pleats can sate my purple addiction.
ABS Allen Schwartz New Violet Dress (Bluefly, $154)
A few years ago, I was sitting in a bar when I heard the woman next to me order an “Elizabeth Taylor.” Neither I nor the bartender had any idea what she was talking about. Turns out that you know your an icon when you have a cocktail named after you.
The Elizabeth Taylor
To make an Elizabeth Taylor, pour two tablespoons of Creme de Violette into a champagne glass. Top with 5 oz of Moet and Chandon, stir lightly to combine.
It tastes a little like your drinking a bouquet of flowers, but in a good way.
lovely…ahhh, Elizabeth Taylor…always fashionably late and knew how to make an entrance. Rest In Peace.
Thanks Belle! Now I know what to serve at my Elizabeth Taylor memorial movie marathon tomorrow!
Ah, good to see that an exalted aide on the Hill can't even write keep her homonyms straight.
And obviously, I am posting too quickly — either “can't even write” OR “keep her homonyms straight.” Ah well, it is a Friday.
Good to see anonymous commenters really feel the need to take time out of their day to attack a blogger for typos we all make at some time or another. Seriously? Get over yourself.
Elizabeth Taylor is such an icon! This dress reminds me of her so much, and that drink sounds interesting, but I am sure its delicious. Lovely post, Belle!
Voulez Vous, the rude shot you attempted to make was ruined when you made a typo yourself. You should have deleted it and moved on to the next blogger you're rude to for no reason.
