Three Ways: Citron Sweater

Wearing a bright citron sweater might be a bit intimidating for some women, but yellow is nothing to fear.  This vibrant hue looks good on most skin tones and, contrary to popular belief, can be worn year round if you know how to mix it with the right neutrals.  Here are three outfits that will make this morning’s Calvin Klein citron sweater a stand out.

It’s a bit chilly outside today, so a short-sleeved sweater will need to be layered.  While the immediate inclination might be to reach for a white button down, I prefer to jazz things up a bit.  This navy silk blouse will look perfect under the citron sweater, and the multi-colored, jeweled necklace from Nordstrom pulls it all together perfectly.  Mix in some muted grey accessories and you have a chic work outfit that’s perfect for chilly February mornings.

A short sleeved sweater can also be worn under a blazer or, as in this outfit, a loose fitting, shawl collar sweatshirt.  This outfit would be perfect for casual Fridays at the office or for running errands on a brisk Saturday.  Add some green accessories to tie it all together and the perfect pair of sunglasses, and you have a look that is both cozy and stylish.

When it finally starts warming up around here, this outfit will be perfect for a Spring workday.  While I don’t recommend wearing a yellow top with a black skirt (hello, bumblebee), a black and white printed skirt is a perfect match.  This skirt from Ann Taylor even has a yellow accent in the print.  What could be better?  And while the shoes are completely unaffordable at $725, they were so adorable that I couldn’t resist.

If you’re scared of bright colors, you’re going to need to get over your fear post-haste.  This Spring, retailers will be filled to the brim with yellow, orange, hibiscus and cobalt pieces.  So don’t fear color, embrace it.

I love those shawl cardigans.. I've been trying to find one that is in my budget (low… under $50 preferably) and am having trouble. Hoping for some sales soon. Love all the looks a lot! Thanks Belle.

Is the J.Crew cashmere tee a good substitute for the sweater you highlight?
