Three Ways: Helmut Lang Drape Skirt

Feb 1, 2011

This morning, I posted a gorgeous Helmut Lang drape skirt in the 10th Commandment.  And while I love me a drape skirt, they are notoriously difficult to wear.  So here are three outfits that make the best use of the drape skirt in any situation.

With a drape skirt you want a blouse that fits close-ish to the body, not too tight, not too billowy.  I own a similar silk blouse, and I had to have it taken in a bit do that it had that nice blouson quality without swallowing me whole.  So remember, the tailor is your friend.  Also, how awesome are those shoes from Zara?  And for $99, too.

The Polyvore set for this outfit can be found here.  However, the blouse is only available in ivory at Asos.

There is nothing I hate more on this Earth (not even Vera Bradley/Uggs/Crocs) than people who let their hangover affect how they dress.  If I feel awful, I dress better.  It’s called compensating.  So if I step into Masa 14 or Cedar or Brasserie Beck for brunch on a Sunday, I do not want to see a bunch of unwashed drunks in sweatshirts and skinny jeans or worse yet, yoga pants and dirty hair.

Seriously people, if you want to look like you crawled off the bar room floor to go to brunch, please dine at McDonald’s, no one will judge you there.

I guess what I’m saying is, a hangover is no reason to walk around the morning after smelling like a frat house and dressed for a day on the couch.  Harsh?  Sure.  But you never know who you’ll run into at Clyde’s, and since we were all out drinking last night, you don’t have an excuse.

The Polyvore set can be found here.

Drape skirts are great for evenings on the town.  So while I don’t usually encourage the wearing of all black ensembles, if you mix textures and add a bit of sparkle, you can rise above boring black.  And again, how awesome are those pumps?

The Polyvore set can be found here.

I love everything about this post (especially that last pair of earrings)! When you show different ways to style certain items, I always get fresh ideas for outfits. Love it.

Brunch goes to a whole new low when you are seated next to someone who smells like a porta-potty and looks that way too. This creates an even more stressful situation when it is also meeting family you've not seen for awhile.

Why can't I find the shoes on the Zara website? Am I just missing something? I want them!

    Claire-

You have to go to the store to buy them anyway, they don't retail through the website. Only Georgetown will have them, if you're in DC.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
