DIY: Bauble and Ribbon Necklace

Jan 25, 2011

I’m not what you would call “crafty.”  I don’t knit.  I don’t scrapbook.  I don’t make anything with my hands.  So I tend to shy away from the do-it-yourself fashion tips, but when my co-worker, Virginia, showed me the photo below, I had to share it.

The idea here is pretty simple: Take a bauble bracelet and tie a piece of ribbon to the clasp so that you can wear it as a necklace.  It’s hardly rocket science, but it is a lovely way to turn a simple bracelet into a fashion multi-tasker.  And it’s also a great way to personalize your wardrobe.

If silk ribbon isn’t for you, you could try raffia, woven cording or leather switches.  I’ve chosen a rather neutral vintage bracelet from Ruby Lane, but you could choose a colored bracelet or something with more pizzazz.  And the idea is so easy to replicate, that you could easily make a different necklace to wear with any outfit.

Breathing new life into old pieces is the key to a seasonless wardrobe.  So if you have a bauble bracelet just sitting in a drawer, buy a piece of ribbon and give this idea a try.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
