Rediscovering The Outnet

Jan 19, 2011

When luxury retailer Net-a-Porter launched its sale site, The Outnet, in 2009, fashionistas, like myself, were aflutter.  We believed that the site was a gateway to designer fashions at reasonable prices, but our hopes were not immediately realized.  Sure, a Balmain dress at 75-percent-off is a great deal, but even at a deep discount, that dress is still $4,000. Not.happening.

Despite these early setbacks, it seems that The Outnet is finally hitting its stride.  Yesterday, I popped over to their site looking for a replacement Christmas present (I’m returning mine), and found so many wonderful things that it completely changed my mind about the site.  Below are some of my favorite pieces in the sub-$225 price range (ignore the tag at the bottom, the fuschia skirt is $180).

I especially adore the dotted Twenty8Twelve dress at left, even if Sienna Miller did design it.  (I’m just going to have to find a way to overlook that.)  And, of course, the printed Ports 1961 blouse (far right) is also a favorite.  When I’m a wealthy K-Streeter, I will wear Ports everyday.

    Hey Belle!

    Great post…

I was thinking– would you mind doing a post on great work hairstyles? I have been seeing some women with some amazing up-do's, and I really wish i could do them, but as a woman with extremely wavy, but thin hair, I typically end up with a bun and a headband. any thoughts?

I love L's idea. Hair suggestions would be great!!

great post, lady. I actually had the same thought last week as I shopped there on in flight wifi because I hadn't been to the site in over a year since I despised it so much when it first launched. The prices were horrific!

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.

Ask the Editor: Vol. IV, No. Eighteen

Before we start today’s reader questions, I wanted to take a moment to talk a bit about mental health. For those who experience mental health challenges — whether occasionally or frequently — talking about our struggles is a double-edged sword.
