Trendspotting: Little Rings

Jan 4, 2011

I’ve always admired the bold, fearless way that Miss M layers on her jewelry.  While others are removing accessories, Miss M is piling them on with reckless abandon, and it always looks amazing.  But while I may admire her fashion sense, I’ve always preferred something a bit more subtle for myself.  So when I saw this photo on Garance Dore’s site, I knew that it was the perfect way to add volume without overwhelming my delicate sensibilities.

By mixing these smaller rings, with their intricate designs and delicate shapes, you can effortlessly layer your jewelry.  But since not all of us can afford a Dior Oui ring (be still by beating heart), I decided to pull some more affordable options from Etsy.  Who says stylish, charming jewelry can only be found in the upper price points?

Listed clockwise from the upper left corner:

Little Skeleton Key Ring ($50)

Recycled Silver Antique Bird Ring ($50)

Personalized Signet Ring ($27)

Handmade Pyramid Silver Ring ($30)

If I had to choose, I would probably select the signet ring and the antique bird ring and mix these pieces with a set of silver stack rings that I already own.  I just love the idea of wearing a handful of simple, tiny rings to create a look that is both interesting and subtle.  And since you can find these bands on Etsy or in an expensive jewelry shop, it’s a look that can be achieved in any price point.

I'm obsessed with wearing/stacking lots of small rings! I'm sick of having to re-buy my standard H&M ones monthly when the pho-gold color fades away, so thanks for the Etsy suggestion.

  2. r says:

Would you wear those rings on top of each other, or on different fingers?

  3. cia says:

Like 'em all! Thanks for this post. Good idea.

  4. Mandy P. says:

Very cute, and so glad to see you feature some products from Etsy!

  5. Ava says:

I'm in love with this idea! Now I need to find a set of silver stack rings 😀

  6. Belle says:

r- I would wear them like in the photo, on different fingers.

  7. Stephanie says:

Love the bird and pyramid rings!

Also, I must confess that “pho-gold” made me giggle. Sorry, Meg! I assume you were going for “faux.” “Pho” is pronounced “fuh,” and it's a type of Vietnamese noodle soup.

  8. N says:

Meg – Try painting clear nail polish over your H&M rings to prevent them from fading. I do it on all of my cheap jewelry!

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern
