BPGP: The Hair Essentials

I have very fine hair, so I like to wash it every day for maximum fullness. Unfortunately, the busy life of a Hill staffer doesn’t always allow for a wash, blow dry and style. This is why God invented dry shampoo.
I’ve been a long time fan of the Pssst brand, but I’ve never been a big fan of beauty product monogamy. So when the fine folks at Batiste sent me two cans of their dry shampoo, I decided to give it a whirl.
Pros: Unlike Pssst, which always left a bit of a residue on my scalp, the Batiste brushed out clean. This proved to be a big plus, since it completely eliminated the case of 3:00PM itchy scalp I sometimes get with Pssst.
The product also scored higher than the Tresemme I tried earlier this year, because it neither smelled like a medicine chest or made my hair feel like fly paper.
I also appreciated the light, almost undetectable smell. There’s nothing I hate more than when a beauty product overpowers the smell of your perfume.
Cons: After using the product, I developed a slight case of acne on my scalp. Given that my skin is prone to breakouts, this may not be a problem for the average consumer.
All in all, I really liked this product. If it were a bit easier to find (I’ve never seen it in a local shop, but you can find it on Drugstore.com), it would definitely be my go to choice.

In 1996, a hairdresser at a beauty pageant gave me a bright yellow can of hairspray, called Freez-It. The product smelled like lemon window cleaner, but it worked, rain, snow, sleet or hail. Sadly, it appears that beloved hairspray is on its way to the great beauty product graveyard.
Over the past few months, I’ve tried dozens of replacement hairsprays. The Garnier gave me acne all over my face, shoulders and scalp. The Elnet holds about as well as ten-year-old Scotch tape. And the Pantene was sticky, drying and about as powerful as an intern in the office of a freshman Congressman.
Last week, I walked into the Penn Quarter Bed, Bath and Beyond determined to find a hairspray that worked. And after reading every label, I decided to try SAMY Fat Hair. And I love it.
I have only one small complaint, and that is that the product is a little drying. But that can be remedied with a little leave-in conditioner.
The Fat Hair hairspray has held up in the rain, the wind and the dry cold of the West. And while I don’t want to get ahead of myself (we have a long, rainy winter to get through still), I think this hairspray may be the one.
SAMY Fat Hair IS the one. Love it!
I use the Batiste, and you can find it at Sally Beauty. They usually have the original and blush versions.
Big Sexy Hair Spray & Play Harder is what I've been using on my fine hair for 7 years now. It is the best and I'll keep using it as long as they make it!
Your post on the Garnier stuff made me realize why I was breaking out! I subsequently switched to Frizz Ease Moisture Barrier and I love it! If you want to try something else…
I too have fine hair, (and a lot of it) and have never been able to use dry shampoo without it still looking kinda oily. I tried the Tresemme as well and ended up giving the bottle away to a friend as it did NADA for my hair. Does this one actually make it look like you washed your hair or does it minimize how “2nd day” your hair looks?
I bought Batiste a couple of weeks at at Ulta. It's on their website and also on Amazon. It seems to work well. However I was alarmed when I read the ingredients. The first ingredient listed was butane. It also contains isobutane and propane. Don't really want to breathe those things in or spray them on my hair. I don't why they couldn't use safer ingredients.
Batiste is also available at Bed Bath and Beyond in Chinatown. Personally, when it comes to drug store/cheaper brands, I like Salon Graffix. My favorite dry shampoo is Ojon, but it's so pricey!
