Weekly Reading: Passion for Fashion

Nov 22, 2010

Supply and Demand. I may have missed the Lanvin for H&M release, but it looks like I am the only person who did.  To combat the crowds (they started lining up at 4:00am), the New York H&Ms only allowed 15 minutes of perusal time and a limit of two items per shopper.  Harsh!

Did any of you ladies make it out for the release? If so, what did you buy?

Don Giovanna. The Sartorialist often features photos of a woman named Giovanna.  While I often find the outfits on Scott Schuman’s amazing site to be more aspirational than practical, I would gladly go shopping in her closet anytime.

Dancing a Jeg. I haven’t yet decided how I feel about jeggings.  On the one hand, it’s basically an extension of the leggings trend.  On the other, I’m not sure my tush should be hugged so tightly by any material.  But if Meghan at Wit & Whimsy keeps posting cute outfits like this, I may have to come down on the pro side.

Designer Issues.  It’s a common question: What makes a handbag designer?  Is it the price?  The brand name?

Is Dooney designer?  Is Coach?  Is Kooba?

It’s an interesting debate, and I think it reveals a lot about how socio-economics effects perceptions.  If you want to join in on the discussion, Corporette’s readers have really started it up.

All Puffed Up.  I’ve never embraced the puffy jacket trend.  But given that I am currently freezing to death (it was one degree outside at noon), I may have to rethink my previous thoughts on the matter.  For those of you already on the wagon, Lilliana at Cheap Chicas has some ideas on where to find them and how to wear them.

Quality Over Quantity.  The Curvy Fashionista has some great advice on how to choose quality clothing.  Her tutorial on fit, fabric, style and everything in between is a must read.

Ladies, on a closing note, I’m out West for the week and the Internet is spotty at best.  I’m going to try to keep up with the posting, but if I don’t, that would be why.  It won’t do any of us any good for me to get frustrated and throw my MacBook across the room.

Wow, that is a chic puffer coat! I'm considering buying the long one from J. Crew, but I've yet to make the plunge; maybe I'll go with the short one instead.

I'm delighted that puffer jackets are popular this year and available in better styles/colors. Gap has one that I want to go see in person. I was so cold last year in my wool coat!

I was about to ask, 1 degree at lunchtime, where are you!? but that makes sense. I'm so relieved there are more attractive puffy coats out there. I'm moving to Siberia (honestly) and need a full-length one.

I believe that Giovanna is an editor with one of the European Vogue's. She's stunning.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.
