State of the Blog: Midterm Election Day

Nov 1, 2010

As you might imagine, election season is a bit of a busy time for me.  So there will be no posts today, but we’ll be back in full swing tomorrow.  Until then, I wanted to keep you ladies updated on what I’m planning for the rest of the year (can you believe it’s almost the end of the year?).

Holiday Posts.  Just like last year, CHS will be featuring a variety of holiday posts.  We will be doing one week of what to wear to holiday parties.  So if you have a specific ask in this department, send an e-mail to capitolhillstyle(at)gmail(dot)com.

Gift Giving.  For the past two years, CHS has featured a guide for holiday giving.  This year, we will be featuring two weeks worth of gifts.  During the first week, we will cover a gift guide for all of the people in your life (mother, sister, boyfriend, etc.).  Then, during the second week, we will feature shopping ideas from local Washington, D.C. boutiques.  This way if you need to pip in and pick up something last minute, you will know where to go.

Cocktails.  Since I’m not a big drinker, I’m running out of cocktail ideas for the Friday Happy Hour post.  So if you have a favorite cocktail, leave it in the comments.  This champagne addict will be very appreciative.

Comments Away.  Last week, several of you left comments on the open post.  I’m going to free up some space to answer many of the questions later this week.  I will also incorporate several of the other ideas into posts.  Thank you for participating!

Tomorrow’s the big day!  So I’m off to do my duty.  And no matter who you vote for, remember to vote.

xoxo

Belle

can you please write about gift ideas for bosses? this is always a tricky one. and while wine has been a good fallback for the last few years, i'd like a new, fresh idea. thanks!

  2. Meg says:

Very much look forward to the upcoming post on gift shopping at local stores!

  3. Sara says:

I'm not sure which of these cocktails you have or haven't featured yet, but… what about a mojito, dark and stormy, salty dog or an old fashioned?

  4. ~M says:

I don't remember any fruity drinks (strawberry daquiris, pina coladas) or white Russians.
This should get you going: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mixed_drinks. The Flaming Sambuca pictures are gorgeous!

  5. gingerr says:

I need to give a gift to my son's girlfriend. They aren't engaged but she's been around a couple of years.
I don't want anything too expensive because I don't want her to feel like she has to give me an expensive gift — I remember very well what it was like to be just a few years out of college, paying rent and trying to buy presents.

So something for a mid-twenties gal who's special.

  6. Erica says:

gifts for dads/brothers/etc…they are the hardest to shop for! can you also include budget friendly options for the economically challenged???

  7. KLo says:

I also would love gifts for dads. And moms. My parents are not “typical” and so typical gifts never work.

    Good luck today!

November AMA: You Asked, I Answered

Another month has come and gone, and between a busy work schedule, illness and the search for new childcare, I almost forgot to ask for questions for the AMA.  Luckily, I remembered late last night.  So here we go. I always think it’s funny when people send rude or overly personal questions when I put […]

Gift Guide 2023: Stocking Stuffers, Pt. 1

I love stocking stuffers.  They are the best part of Christmas.  There’s just nothing quite like an affordable gift that’s funny or useful or chic (or maybe all three).  So here is Part One of my stocking stuffer gift guides, where nothing costs more than $30.

You Have, You Need: Camel Sweater Edition

In the name of fiscal responsibility, I’m taking a shopping respite through the end of the year.  When you write a fashion blog, not shopping is like being a person on a diet who moves into a McDonald’s.  But I’m determined to flex some self-discipline now that my holiday shopping is done.

Add to Cart: Five Recent Amazon Purchases

Since my daughter was born, Amazon has claimed so much of my money that I had to buy stock just to get some of it back.  Between the formula, onesies, fruit pouches, diapers, wipes, and ever evolving list of baby development gear, I could not survive without Prime.   My husband no longer notices the […]
