For several seasons, the hottest trend in hair has been voluminous, curly bombshell hair. From beachy waves to perfect spiral, it seems that every celebrity, style maker and It Girl is rocking a curled coif.
Creating the perfect wavy hairdo has proven to be a bit of a challenge for yours truly. In D.C., the humid conditions make retaining the curls damn near impossible. And when I’m out West the curls hold so well, that even the clamp marks from my Conair curling iron last all day. And clamp marks are not sexy.
The solution? A clampless curling iron.
Simply wist hair around the heated barrel, hold for ten seconds and release for perfectly formed curls without the annoying bend at the ends. Sure, it takes a little practice to get the technique down, but once you do, you’ll be clamp free for life.
Today, Capitol Hill Style is giving away a HerStyler clampless curling iron to help you create the perfect bombshell curls. The curling iron has a 1″ ceramic barrel, fast heat-up, and a comfort grip handle. The curling iron retails for $200, so I’m going to make the instructions for entry a bit more complex than usual.
Step 1: Find a photo of your favorite curly hairdo.
Step 2: Leave a comment including a link to the photo, and the reason why it’s your favorite. Do you prefer Gisele’s tousled bedhead to America’s ladylike waves? Tell us why.
Step 3: Be sure to provide an email address so that I can contact you if you win. One entry per email address, no Twitter or Facebook entries will be excepted.
Good Luck!
I LOVE Kate Beckinsale's hair in this photo. I like that its effortless enough for day, but still really pretty and romantic for night. As a brunette, I also love the perfect chocolate color she has here. Like others, I have thin and flat hair so I envy these gorgeous messy waves so much!

Since I saw it four years ago, I've always loved Michele Wiliams' hair from the 2006 Academy Awards. From the soft curls framing her face to the waves in her bun, this style is classic and one I've always coveted. My curly hair is unruly most of the time, but this is the perfect combination of tousle and control.
I've included two links so you can see her hair at two different angles: https://bit.ly/ainYaO and https://bit.ly/9O1Crb
I prefer America's ladylike waves! I am obsessed with Blake Lively's hair on Gossip Girl. If there is any tool in the world that can make my hair do what hers does, I want it!
https://photos.posh24.com/p/794355/l/blake_lively/gossip_girl_special_the_spotlight_on_serena.jpg
It is completely coincidence that Jessica Biel is the photo you chose with this post, Belle. I've been trying to get this look right since it was on the cover of Glamour this summer: the voluminous, bouncy, effortless curls are both sexy and classy. Also love the carmel highlights!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qR3rK0kZFkg
My favorite curls are Jessica's (see YouTube link above), because everyone should be this happy and determined in the morning. I also believe that those blond curls contribute to making her feel so darn good and positive. If I only had a curling iron of my own, I might have this chutzpah in the AM as well…
Dear Belle,
As my favorite thing to do is look at your post (first thing I do each day) I was so excited to see that you are mentioning this awesome hair trend. Typically I'm a fan of Jenifer Aniston hair but as a girl with thick and unruly hair the waves are a lot easier for me to manage than the stick straight look.
I am sorry to break your rules but I had to pick two photos. Included is a photo of Gwyneth Paltro who needed this change for a long time. Such a warm starlet needs a warmer look and obviously had to add the Pantene Queen herself.

https://www.zimbio.com/Aishwarya+Rai/articles/sBB-Spxv5F7/Aishwarya+Rai+Bachchan+adopt+Cancer+patient- I love these curls on model and actress Aishwarya Rai. I love how the side swept curls exude the concept of “bombshell” and overall its just so pretty! I would love to recreate this! Overall, I would love to have create deep, defined burls like this and America's. Thanks!
I'm obsessed with Blake Lively's tousled wavy hair goodness 🙂 I hate hair that looks too perfect and says “tried too hard.”
https://www.beautysnob.com/hair/?limit=10&offset=110
Rough week for her but I've always been a huge fan of Courtney Arquette's (er. Cox) (er? Arquette) hair.
https://iphonetoolbox.com/wallpaper/courtney-cox-01/
Perfect wave, shiny, healthy hair. Barrels crossed, this curling iron could help me achieve the same look!
I LOVE how Kate Hudson's hair looks like https://www.palzoo.net/file/pic/user/KateHudson.jpg.
It seems so effortless yet very gorgeous, simple, and classy.
I don't like Gisele's hair because I think it's too messy and I don't like the bed-to-wear look. I do love America's hair for the same reasons why I like Kate Hudson's hair. Plus I think America's a very classy and pretty actress–as a Latina, I look up to her.
Here's my email address, in case I win: tcabellon@gmail.com
For some reason the website doesn't open, but here's is a link to the website that actually works. Sorry, Belle.

I pretty much love all the hairstyles at the Victoria's Secret fashion show, but the one sported by Heidi Klum in this picture is definitely my favorite. Her hair has body and bounce without looking like a lion's mane, and the curls are just the right amount of undone so that they don't look too fussy.
https://www.talkingmakeup.com/pics/news/viv905.jpg
This is an awesome giveaway Belle, and your blog is amazing. Keep up the great work!

Leighton Meester may make many questionable fashion/hair/makeup choices on her own, but the stylists on Gossip Girl are good to her character! It's so healthy looking, and the curls are to die for. Seriously, this is what I wish I could do. My own curling iron always gives me Shirley Temple curls (not sure whether it's my technique or my naturally curly hair)- which then friz up as soon as I step outside. Thanks, D.C. humidity!
If I could have those curls, I would be quite content with my curly hair!
https://www.dailymakeover.com/hairstyles/women_hairstyles/alessandra_ambrosio_nov_2006
Alessandra Ambrosio, the Victorias Secret Model. She always looks sexy but in a natural, “i wake up looking this good” kind of way. Since it doesn't look like she is trying too hard but still pulls it off, she is my hands down fav.
Completely in love with the wavy, natural look that is “beach hair.” I've always tried to rock this look, but my hair can really only stay curly in the back, while the front tends to go limp after a few hours. I would love to have the HerStyler to even out the look! But, alas, on a meager staff assistant salary I can't bring myself to splurge. The link below is of Scarlett Johansson with an effortless and east looking wavy do. Her locks in this picture is what my ideal hair would look like. Also, I've been really into middle parts lately, which is why I chose this photo!
https://www.beautyriot.com/hairstyles/gallery-long-wavy-page41
Thanks!
My hair is very straight and is often difficult to style because it does not hold well. I have always looked to Jennifer Aniston for great hair influence because my hair so closely resembles hers. However, I am very jealous when she has her loose curls and nonchalant wavy tresses.
https://www.makeup4all.com/jennifer-aniston’s-hair-secrets/
i love taylor swift's curls!
https://www.zimbio.com/pictures/lPNJalgDfdo/Taylor+Swift+Arriving+Radio+2+Studios/Mw5XptHjSBk/Taylor+Swift
as someone with extremely straight, thin hair, i know that getting that look is probably a pipe dream. but maybe not with the HerStyler!
I absolutely love Sara Ramirez's hair! She goes from straight to wavy to curly and it all looks great. This is the only pic I could find where it was very curly: https://abc.go.com/shows/greys-anatomy/photo-details/callie-torres/94908/217944. It can be difficult to find photos of brunettes with defined curls-they just don't show up well in photos.
I think her look is in between Gisele's and America's, which is more where I end up on a daily basis.
Thanks Belle! I've been eyeing this iron since my cousin bought one earlier this year. She loves it!
Keri
Sigh. Although I don't work on the Hill, I do work for a nonprofit so I can relate to the salary woes that come with jobs like ours. I have thick, wavy hair that doesn't hold on its own. I'd love to wear it curly/wavy more often, but it's easier to just straighten it and call it a day. (I even tried curling my hair with my straightener to avoid the clamp-marks and only ended up burning my thumb.) My hair idol is Jennifer Aniston–she can wear her hair straight or wavy and it looks great and frizz-free. I guess that's what happens when your best friend is a professional hair stylist!

https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https://www.bestfashiontrends.info/all_images/trendy-hair-styles-2010-kim-kardashian.jpg&imgrefurl=https://www.bestfashiontrends.info/%3Fpage%3D19%26latest-trends/trendy-haircuts-hair-styles-2010/&usg=__SgstlEpi_xEEOvbrT91k6pyjHyM=&h=640&w=440&sz=52&hl=en&start=126&sig2=Wvx1TJZwcrFlndsv3RWkFA&zoom=1&tbnid=Xf0mACvcEXRAVM:&tbnh=126&tbnw=88&ei=fZW0TOKrIoWclgf1ovSOCg&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dkim%2Bkardashian%2Bwavy%2Bhair%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26rls%3Dcom.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox%26biw%3D1276%26bih%3D577%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur=234&oei=aZW0TL2iBsOqlAfbwYXpCQ&esq=6&page=6&ndsp=24&ved=1t:429,r:17,s:126&tx=65&ty=55
I have very thick, stick-straight hair, so I've always dreamed of having Keri Russell's curls.
Back in college I loved the crazy, unruly hair she had on Felicity. https://www.curly-hair-styles-magazine.com/keri-russell-hair-pictures-05.html (In retrospect, that is some wild hair.)
Ten years later I like a more toned-down look, like the softer way she's been wearing it the past few years:
https://www.mtv.com/content/style/winter2005a/images/flipbooks/trl_guestbook/keri_russell_5.2.06.jpg
I like an early 20th century look that is romantic, but doesn't make me look like I'm going to a costume party. The look not requiring tons of specialized tools is a must and this look from the beautiful Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O'Hara fits the bill. https://3.bp.blogspot.com/_6n6jrWfJ8R0/THTy0cmnAtI/AAAAAAAAEmw/InvcrhdCTME/s400/Vivien+Leigh.jpg
It says – I'm beautiful and feminine but you can't tell me what to do. Many people hate Scarlett, and I have my problems with her too, but girl knew how to work it.
https://img4.realsimple.com/images/0909/hair-long-twenty_300.jpg My thin, blonde hair doesn't hold a curl well, so I prefer the type of waves that i have the hardest time achieving – loose waves that hold and look natural; e.g., they don't fall out after 20 miunutes, but they aren't doubled over in weight from hairspray.
I've always looked up to Debra Messing as a Curly Hair Icon (CHI for short). Whether it's a mass of curls (https://www.askmen.com/women/galleries/actress/debra-messing/picture-1.html) or toned-down waves (https://www.listal.com/viewimage/1050536), she always manages to look perfectly classy and put together. It would be amazing to win this and attempt a Debra Messing-esque style on my own – thanks for the great giveaway, Belle!
I'm obsessed with Anne Hathaway's tousled waves from the new movie Love and Other Drugs. (https://www.filmofilia.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/love-and-other-drugs_03.jpg)
Her hair seems so effortless and chic. Love it!
I'm always jealous of Rachel Zoe's hair…I know she has a full-time hair stylist to keep it up, but it just looks effortless and so beach-y. My hair is as straight as it gets, so if I win this and it keeps my hair actually curly, I'll be singing it's praises from the Longworth rooftop!
https://www.peoplestylewatch.com/people/stylewatch/gallery/0,,20189915,00.html#20851707
To say that beachy bombshell hair is a “modern” style is simply not giving credit where credit is due! While a previous poster had it right in mentioning Vivienne Leigh, the locks that have best rocked the look are surely Brigitte Bardot's. Every time I see a modern It-Girl bombshell wannabe, I'm sure this is what they are trying to emulate! (And who could blame them?)
https://www.listal.com/viewimage/810200
I absolutely adore Carrie's loose romantic curls. My hair is pin straight and thin, so curling gives me volume and sass 🙂 Carrie is naturally beautiful, and these curls don't take away from that at all. Curls always make me feel beautiful, and feeling beautiful is the largest part of being beautiful. Unfortunately, it's difficult to get gorgeous curls like this with my $10 CVS curling iron… oh well, we do what we can! But these curls are definitely swoon-worthy:
https://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e139/katielynmusic/style/Inspirations/Celebrities/CarrieUnderwoodBigCurls.jpg
I am obsessed with Charlize Theron's effortless-looking soft curls. It is so hard to do short curly hair without making yourself look like “triangle head,” but she finds a way to eliminate all the frizz without over-defining her curls. If I only I could make my hair look this good every morning. Sigh.
Charlize Theron
I've always loved retro hair styles, especially from the 40s, and I think Rita Hayworth has the most beautiful curls.

As you mentioned, curly hair can get unruly on the Hill. Born and raised in high humidity, I fought with my hair my entire life. My favorite hairstyle for work is a curly/wavy ponytail. It's simple and takes little effort, but it can still look really good. The curly dress up the ponytail, while the straighter bangs keep you from looking like you have a sleeked back head with a poofy-frizzy ponytail.
I think I prefer the fifth (5th) photo down in this series:
https://picsjenniferlopez.blogspot.com/2009/09/jennifer-lopez-curly-hair.html
My hair isn't quite this long, but I think with a little patience and the right curling iron (hopefully the HerStyler!) I can approximate the look.
Vanessa Paradis has been rocking her curls for 20+ years. Here is the pretty red carpet version
https://static1.purepeople.com/articles/0/45/26/0/@/326326-vanessa-paradis-version-tete-bouclee-0x414-4.jpg
and here is the wild bed hair that probably took just as long

I like both because a girl needs a choice.
Love Rachel Bilson's simple look here. It looks natural and beachy while still sophisticated and sexy looking.
https://www.fhmonline.com/images/media/100sexiest/200804032006309146880_Rachel-Bilson.jpg
Ack, I need this or something like it. BADLY. My hair has grown long for the first time since early college, & I don't know what to do with it. I recently discovered it's wavy, not just stick-straight, but I can't seem to make it look GOOD. I'd ideally want this: https://bit.ly/94bhZg
Why? Because it's perfect… she looks beautiful but low-maintenance, pretty but casual. Again. Perfect.
Christina Hendricks is an absolute bombshell. I love her sleek, put-together look from Mad Men, but she's even more gorgeous when she really just lets her hair down, so to speak. I'm a busty redhead myself so I'm incredibly inspired by her fierce, fearless, unapologetic style. Her mane of curls in this Esquire Magazine photoshoot is what I wish my hair looked like every day. If only.
https://www.esquire.com/cm/esquire/images/BV/christina-hendricks-esquire-cover-0510-lg.jpg
When I think of perfection I think of Lea Michelle at the 2010 SAG awards. Don't even get me started on how obsessed I am with that green Catherine Malandrino to die for creation. Her hair was beyond goddess like. The loose flowing curls are something I've tried to emulate myself several times. It's the sort of effortless beauty that makes you either want to be her or hate her!
https://fashionrollcall.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/leamichellesagawards2010malandrino.jpg
Can Blake Lively do no wrong?!
This picture of her in Harper's Bazaar fills me with hair envy. The little braids thrown in? Someone get me her hairstylist's number ASAP! I just love the ease, plus her makeup is spot on. My best attempt at this look is poor…
Here's the link.

Two of my guilty pleasure TV shows are The OC and Gossip Girl. I have always been lusting after Summer and Blair's hair, and I've dreamed owning a styling tool that would get me those beautiful wavy curls. I love the way the curls add a bit of social grace to the simplicity of wearing your hair down.

I love Catherine Zeta Jones' hair!

Its so gorgeous and shiny. And… I guess I'm biased because she has dark hair like I do!
I LOVE Kate Beckinsale's hair in this photo. I like that its effortless enough for day, but still really pretty and romantic for night. As a brunette, I also love the perfect chocolate color she has here. Like others, I have thin and flat hair so I envy these gorgeous messy waves so much!

I like Leighton Meester's wavy/curly hair here because it's elegant and, more importantly, it's good enough for Chuck Bass!
I love January Jones voluminous curls in this picture: https://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2008/02/kenneth_branagh_and_january_jo.html
I love Leighton Meester's hair on Gossip Girl. It always looks perfectly polished.
https://www.haironthebrain.com/2009/10/how-to-halloween-hairstyles/
i adore loose, flowy waves. they can be dramatic and dressed up for a formal function or gorgeous for a relaxing saturday. gisele's hair is one of my very favorites: https://www.aaa-fashion.com/tag/hair-trends/page/20/ it's just so versatile and really lovely. i have bright red hair and love it when it's a dramatic wavy.
I have to admit that I'm pretty obsessed with the Kardashian waves right now. I've been trying to duplicate this look to no avail. I think the clamp on a regular curling iron actually messes me up! I'm also loving the center part. I've had a side part for so many years, it's time for a change.
https://www.realhairextensions.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/kim-kardashian-hair.jpg
I am loving Beth Jones' hair from B. Jones Style! It's the perfect combination of of curled – but not overdone! Love! https://bjonesstyle.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/maxi-and-army1.jpg?w=600&h=907
Marion Cotillard has gorgeous curls. She can occasionally wear her hair in over-styled waves, but when she unleashes the messier curl the result is just beautiful, especially with this medium length cut. It looks like she used a curling iron plus a volumizer for a natural style that's sultry, but would still look crisp and not too “done” if she was at work rather than a film festival.

My favorite wavy hairstyle would be a toss up between Kate Hudson and Gisele Bundchen. I love that they both have lovely, naturally wavy hair, and they both know how to play up their sexy beach waves. My favorite photo would have to be one of Kate's: https://www.haironthebrain.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/wavy-beachy-bridal-hair.jpg
That's my favorite because it's the right amount of waves, not too overly done or flat.
I prefer Gisele's over America's because I've always loved beach waves over curly hair. I blame my mom for my dislike of curly hair; she box permed my hair when I was in kindergarten back in the early 90s, and I ended up with these hideous poodle curls, and was called the “Asian Poodle Girl” for the rest of the year there, even though the curls went away after 2 months.
Thanks Belle!
