Belle's Weekly Reading: Volume XVIII

Oct 8, 2010

Eddy Go Litely.  I never thought that I would be promoting a beer commercial on this site, particularly a Miller beer commercial, but here it is.  Why am I supporting this advertisement?  Because the good folks at Miller are mocking one of my least favorite faux pas, Ed Hardy.  If even the men who write beer commercials know that Ed Hardy is dirty, what is wrong with all of the men who wear it?

The Curl from Ipanema.  One of the hottest trends in hair is the Brazilian Blowout.  The hot straightening treatment is guaranteed to give you silky smooth locks, but at what price?  Apparently, the secret to the Blowout’s straightening power is formaldehyde, lots of it.  Sounds like this hair treatment just a class action lawsuit waiting to happen.

I Come from the Land Down Under.  Target’s recent collaborations with Target and Mulberry were big hits.  But the excitement over these pairings pales in comparison to Target Australia’s upcoming collaboration with uber-designer Stella McCartney.  Yes, that Stella McCartney.  (It’s okay, feel free to take a moment.)

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to buy these pieces in the U.S.  However, you might be able to pick up a few of these amazing pieces on eBay once the sale has ended.  The sale is scheduled for October 29th.

Seriously, I want EVERYTHING in the collection.  If you live in Australia, or know someone who does, hit me up at capitolhillstyle (at) gmail (dot) com.

Welcome to the (Fashion) Jungle.  Two of my favorite stores now have a presence online.  Neiman Marcus Last Call has opened an Internet store, and while it doesn’t have quite the selection of the store it is a great resource for frugal shoppers.  And this weekend, Last Call is offering 30% both online and in the store.

Another Belle favorite, Zara, still doesn’t allow online shopping, but it has posted its lookbook online.  This way you can cyber-stalk the new styles before they arrive in stores, and know exactly which pieces you absolutely have to have.  DC has two Zara locations, one in Georgetown and a second at Metro Center.

She’s Got Legs (and Feet).  Most of the Ask Belles that I receive revolve around shoes.  Thankfully, Lucky Magazine has pulled together a list of Fall’s best shoe trends.   If you can’t find ideas for what to buy on this list, then you need more help than I can provide.

Holiday! Celebrate!  Monday is a federal holiday, so there will be no new posts.  See you Tuesday.  Enjoy your weekend!

I've been loyal to Budweiser since before I was even able to drink beer (a good friend owns a distributorship), but that commercial is ohsoclose to turning me.

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.
