PCT: Door Knocking Attire

Oct 6, 2010

If you intend to work or volunteer on a campaign, odds are very high that you will end up knocking on some doors.  And while most of your fellow door knockers will settle for a campaign tee and some jeans, I like to reach a little higher.  After all, casual attire can be chic.

1.  Carol Marie Pyramid Earring (ShopBop, $45)

2.  Steve Madden Intyce Boot (Nordstrom, $130)

You might want to add some gel insoles if you intend to be on your feet all day.  Dr. Scholls makes the best ones on the market.  This is one time when spending $8 now will save you endless hours of pain later.

3.  Parka with Cotton Hood (Zara, $99)

This coat is probably not warm enough for some of the higher elevations.  However, since you’ll be out walking, you might get a little warm so you want to layer.  This jacket over a sweater and tee should be plenty for most climates and even too much for others.

4.  Dolman Sleeved Sweater (Loft, $60)

5.  Joe’s Jeans Chelsea Skinnies (Revolve, $165)

A reader asked the other day why I am so addicted to tall boots for the campaign trail.  The answer is simple: You can make boots more comfortable (with insoles, good socks), and they keep your calves warm with or without heat packs.  Can your sneakers do that?

I won't be knocking on doors, but I'll certainly be purchasing that jacket 😉

  2. dm58 says:

Sad to admit, but I have never really considered insoles in my shoes . . . do you need to size up a half size? do you remove the insoles the boots come with? I bought a FABULOUS pair of boots, but they have zero cushion . . . this may help!

  3. KLo says:

Also – if you need a little arch support, Dr. Scholl's makes an insole with a soft heel cup and a strong arch support … I know you can get them at WalMart … not sure where else. I use them in all of my riding boots.

@dm58, I size up half a size for arch supports, but I am a little crazy when my toes touch the tops or ends of my shoes … so I may be a bad example.

  4. Belle says:

A Half size should do, but you can buy thinner insoles that don't usually require that you upsize. I am right between an 8.5 and a 9, so I'm usually okay.

  5. Daisy says:

    Loving those earrings!

  6. Leila says:

Belle–you are like my Oprah, you posted the Steve Madden cognac boots, I bought them online 2 minutes later. To think I couldn't bring myself to buying them last winter!

Thanks and love the campaign postings, I will be out on the trail for the last two weeks and have found your postings incredibly helpful.

    loooove this outfit!

will definitely be wearing versions of it in different hues (chartreuse with olive, gray with black, camel and neutrals, eggplant purple with black, orange with brown, so many choices)

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

The Find: A Versatile Sweater Jacket

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
