NYFW Spring 2011: Lela Rose

Sep 13, 2010

Fashion bloggers everywhere are a Twitter with details from New York Fashion Week.  Sadly, this blogger is stuck in D.C. preparing for Congress to come back into session on Tuesday.  But thanks to the good folks at Style.com, I haven’t missed a single runway look.

One of my all time favorite designers is Lela Rose.  Her designs could best be described as tailored femininity, embracing whimsical patterns and bright colors while maintaining structure and shape.  Here are my favorite looks from her Spring 2011 NYFW runway show.

What can I say?  I’m a sucker for a sequined evening gown.

Add a wide brimmed gray hat and this dress would be perfect for Gold Cup.

I typically don’t like sheer insets, but this dress makes the peek-a-boo panels look ladylike instead of trampy.

The Rose show was inspired by the designer’s trips to Lima Peru.  Hence the long, layered necklaces in bright colors and patterns and the zig-zag almost Missoni print belts.  I like to keep things simple, so I probably would have chosen to use just the belt.

You would need to search high and low for undergarments to wear with this dress, but I love the combination of sheer fabrics with solids.  It adds a softness that is both girly and sexy.

I really wish that I could find a better photo of this dress, because the texture of the fabric looks like it could be very interesting.  But either way, I’m always happy to see hot pink making an appearance on the runway.

Lela Rose featured two ombre pieces in her show.  So if you purchased ombre pieces last year or the year before, you should be able to integrate them into your Spring 2011 wardrobe.

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
