The Floor Report: Miss M's Five for Fall

Aug 31, 2010

This fall, there’s a lot to look forward to as I’ve been inspired by red-carpet looks and sartorialist snaps. From basics with a twist or a totally teased beehive to go with your LBD, I’m slowly winding down my summer and gearing up for the autumn. Some of my style must haves I’m sharing today as we step into (sigh) September.

Give Your Look the Boot

Vince Camuto Karena Boot (Dillard’s, $198)

This season, we’ve got options galore as designers have all gone bananas for boots. Knee high, peep toe, riding, stilleto, wedge, and studded there is a boot to suit everyone’s fancy. One that practicality and style is this two tone stunner from Vince Camuto.

Battle the Cold

Equipment Satin Shirt (Intermix, $198)

With troops near and far, the military inspiration is here to stay. All summer, we rode the wave of the J Brand “houlihan” skinny cargo, and now I’m wanting an Equipment military shirt. This one comes in navy, olive, or taupe or if you’re really feeling the call to attention, go for the camo and keep the rest simple.

Love Me Some Leopard

(Belle: Of course, she does.  Sometimes, I don’t know how we’re friends.)

Leopard Overcoat (Top Shop, $190)

As if Rachel Zoe hasn’t hammered home the point- get thee a fur (or faux) already. With vests, jackets, and toppers of all shapes, sizes, and price points, there’s simply no reason not to be warm and fuzzy
(and chic) as the temps start to spiral down. The exclusive collection by Adrienne Landau for Intermix is absolutely drool-worthy, andTopshop always gets the outerwear right and doesn’t break the bank.

This jacket also comes in petite! And please check out the $100 leopard print fold over clutch while you’re at it.

Color Me Pretty

Tarte Limited Edition Palette (Sephora, $44)

Emerald tones are always a fall favorite, and this time we’re playing with color in our clothing and cosmetics. With the must have polishes such as oldie but goodie Vamp and this year’s Paradoxal, Chanel is serving up the color we crave. For a new take on the smokey eye, dip your brush into Dolce&Gabbana eye color duo “Dazzling and Guilty”.

Can’t live without all your emerald tones? Tarte has the ultimate palette of colors.

Fade to Black

Perfect Trouser Pants (Gap, $60)

While some women lose weight over the summer, I sometimes slip into the comfortable monotony of wearing sundresses for three months and suddenly when it’s time to reach for pants, all I get is a gentle reminder of how much guacamole I really ate all summer. Or maybe it’s the white wine. Hmmmm. My point is that there is no better way to pull it together on the bottom than with an amazing pair of black pants. Trousers, skinnies, leather leggings and boot cuts are all coming out this season in trusty black. The Gap is turning out a collection of black pants in several styles starting at $49.99 – definitely worth trying on and hopefully going home a wardrobe staple.

Reading many mags on airplanes this week…of all the boots advertized, I instantly locked on the Karena… must find a pair

  2. Andrea says:

The only thing I like are the black trouser pants, and that just SOUNDS boring. That leopard coat scares the crap out of me.

  3. District Cut says:

The fur trend resonates with menswear as well. https://tinyurl.com/2g9s3ue

  4. Norwegianette says:

Oooh, I love Miss M, so glad she's back! Not loving the leopard coat, though…

  5. Daniela says:

I tried on that shirt at Intermix and it looked great belted. That being said, it's hard to find a good looking, but affordable version of it.Oh poverty.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
