The 62nd Emmy's: Belle's Best Dressed

Aug 30, 2010

This year, none of the gown’s on the Emmy Red Carpet wowed me.  Some of the dresses were beautiful.  Others were pretty or chic, but there wasn’t a single gown that knocked me off of my feet.  That being said, here were the gowns that I thought were lovely, even if I didn’t love them.

I’m a sucker for sequins on a normal day, but show me a perfectly fitted, fully-beaded gown and my heartbeat quickens.  I also appreciate that Jennifer Carpenter chose not to drape herself in jewels, letting the dress speak for itself.

I’m still not entirely sure who Olivia Munn is (something about The Daily Show, I think), but this Zac Posen gown fits her perfectly.  I also appreciate the beachy, nude makeup and the simple, chic ponytail.  No need to go crazy with the smokey eyes and red lips when you’re wearing a dress this lovely.

I also like the unexpected combination of a red gown with citrine jewelry.  I’ll have to remember that one.

While everyone is buzzing about the OdlR swathed Lea Michele and her bad attitude like she’s the second coming of fashion, I prefer to celebrate Glee’s Jayma Mays and her textured Burberry gown. I also loved her min-Bardot blowout and her chunky gold jewels.  A little bit edgy, a little bit classic, and a whole lotta chic; it’s fabulous.

While many of the nude gowns on the carpet feel flatter than my hair on a humid day, Claire Danes’ Armani Prive gown was stunning.  Unlike Mariska Harigtay’s gown, which completely washed her out, Danes’ sequin column gown is ethereal and radiant.

While the hairstyle (or lack thereof) left me totally cold, I loved Kyra Sedgwick’s Monique Lhuillier pleated gown.  I really love the idea of using texture instead of lace or sequins to make a gown more interesting.  Particularly, when the wearer is a bit past 35 and sequins would look a bit gauche.

In addition, I think the rose colored accessories were a welcome departure from the traditional silver sequined clutches and platinum bracelets.  It makes the gown less stuffy, and I like that.  Even an evening gown can feel relaxed.

Eva Longoria looked AMAZING; I would definitely add her to this list!

  2. I hadn't even seen Jennifer Carpenter. She definitely deserves her spot on this list; she looks amazing!

  3. Rory says:

If I didn't have my glasses on, I would have mistaken Claire Danes for Jessica Simpson. Something about the combination of the dress and hair.

  4. AT says:

Jennifer Carpenter and Claire Danes are my fave on this list. And no one is talking about Jayma's dress – I didn't even know she was there! Beautiful!

  5. Nice choices! I love the Kyra looks totally appropriate for the event, but also comfortable and like she was able to eat in the past week.

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
