CJ's Five for Fall

Aug 27, 2010

This fall for me is all about texture. While pining for the mercury to drop over the summer, I had visions of tweed and plaid dancing in my head. And I believe someone famous once said “Give me a chunky knit sweater, leather riding boots, and tickets to a football game or give me death.” Or something along those lines. Alison and Belle’s posts have us covered on obsession-worthy coats, knits, and boots; so my picks are here to fill in the gaps.

The boyfriend blouse isn’t going anywhere, and I love the contrast of an over-sized silky shirt with a cool leather belt.

Herringbone Knit Dress, Calvin Klein, $129

The jewel tone and lovely detailing on this dress make it perfect for a day at the office. I’d bring a chunky cream cardigan or scarf to combat the arctic temperatures of the office, and pair it with a royal blue heel or bangle.

Beyond Vintage Lace Front Blouse

Lace Front Blouse, Beyond Vintage, $190

A little lace and romance go a long way this season. I could see this under a suit jacket at the office, or over one of summer’s maxi dresses for a leisurely Sunday brunch.

Spotlight Heel, $80

What’s not to love about a lace up bootie with cut-outs? Just enough oxford to satisfy my freakishly strong back-to-school impulses, but with enough heel to make you feel like a lady. Dress it up or down; I have a feeling I will live in these this fall.

Stormy Skies Bandage Dress, Herve Leger, $1590

Available at renttherunway.com for $150

There are so many things to look forward to about fall, but for most of the politicos I know- it’s the first Tuesday in November. Election night rivals the rebirth of New Year’s- plus it’s two months warmer and your boss is paying for the booze. I have never looked forward to a Tuesday more.

Win or lose, election night parties are a chance to get out of the tired jeans you have been canvassing in for the last three months, put on something a little fancy, and celebrate (or commiserate) with your comrades. This bandage dress topped with a blue blazer is passably professional for the staff suite; grab some aubergine pumps and a gold clutch- and you’re ready for the after-party.

I don't know what you were thinking with the first picture, but girl looks like a stylish Obi Wan Kenobi or Luke Skywalker from Star Wars…you have GOT to be kidding me…

I actually really like the belt, and the price is great. I think it's just the shirt they paired with it that gives it the Star Wars vibe (not that there's anything wrong with that…)

Love the CK dress. Maybe not the snazziest wardrobe addition but very wearable!

  6. Kristen says:

Really likes the spotlight heel and the herve leger dress.

  7. KLo says:

I love that belt, too … and wonder how it would work over the CK dress with a gauzy drapey cardigan … hmmm

Oooh! Way to include the Rent the Runway option! That's a great idea!
