Happy Hour: Twas a Dark and Stormy Night

Aug 13, 2010

The Dark and Stormy is a classic British cocktail that is perfect for a Friday the 13th Happy Hour.  For the perfect mix of ginger beer and rum visit Againn DC.  If you want something a bit different to make at home, try the recipe below.

Susana Monaco Cap Sleeve Dress (ShopBop, $168)

Simple, elegant, with a bit of spice; this dress is a different twist on a classic shape.

The Perfect Storm Cocktail

1 vanilla bean
1/2 cup superfine sugar
1 ounce ginger brew (we like Reed’s)
1 1/2 ounces apple cider
2 ounces dark rum (we use Gosling’s Black seal)

Directions

Split a vanilla bean lengthwise, scrape out the inside and add it to the sugar, setting aside the pod. Stir until the sugar is speckled with bits of vanilla. Dip the rim of a glass in water, then in the sugar to coat.

Mix ginger brew, apple cider, and rum in a measuring cup. Pour over ice into glass and garnish with half the vanilla bean.

Happy Hour

The Counter: The Post-Product Era

When I was in my 20s, I bought every trendy nail polish, eye color, and lip gloss.  Sure, I could only wear them on the weekends, but why not wear emerald green liner?  In my 30s, I became enamored with skincare and took every “must-have” product for a spin.  But in my 40s, my skin […]
