BPGP: All Hail McQueen

Jul 28, 2010

When the greige nail polish trend caught the world by storm, I was initially intrigued, but on my skin tone the color looked more corpse-like than cool.  I searched high and low for a greige that worked on me, but I came up dry.  Then a friend sent me a bottle of Butter London’s “All Hail McQueen,” and I feel in love.

The polish is a tribute to designer Alexander McQueen, and I think the sophisticated but playful shade is the perfect homage.

The color of the polish is a rich, warm hue that is the perfect combination of grey and beige.  The polish also possesses a light shimmer that gives it an ethereal quality.  And unlike so many greige polishes it won’t add a sallow tinge to those of us in the middle skin tones.

Butter polishes are free of harsh chemicals and wear like iron.  And if you want to get a lengthy wear out of your manicure, make sure to use their pinky-toned base coat.  It will allow you to use less polish, lessening the chance of chips and scratches.

I love Butter! I have this exact polish and it looks great (and I’m pale as can be!).

  2. Dr. Jean Grey says:

Why do you recommend a “pinky-toned” base coat? I’ve never heard of a certain color base coat being better than another. And, I think my go-to fall color is going to be, if I can ever find it, a dark, work-appropriate cream lavender shade. I can’t do greige.

Dr.-Butter makes a base coat that is pink toned, and it gives a nicer, richer color. It also makes it possible to use less, sometimes only one coat of polish.

  4. I recently discovered butterLONDON at a nail salon in Austin. I got “Tea With The Queen” on fingers and toes and I loved it so much I bought a bottle. This lacquer wears so long, I think I got at least two extra days of wear. I just ordered All Hail McQueen and Fash Pack and I think they will be perfect for fall.
