“But Belle, I thought you said we were done with the intern posts on Thursday?” Funny story. I can’t do basic math (ask any of my teachers from 4th grade on), and as a result, I thought I could do seven posts in three days by posting one the first day and two each day for the next two days.
For those of you who also failed math, that’s only five posts. Meaning, we still have two more and I need to buy a calculator.
The depth of my shame knows no bounds. I attribute my failure to the fact that we didn’t come back into session until Tuesday, so I got all confused. But either way, this should give you some idea as to why Congress is so bad at managing money. Onward and Upward…

Style Icon: Jane Aldridge (of Sea of Shoes) – she may be younger than I am, but could she be any more astounding? She has this great sense for mixing vintage pieces with modern color and shapes. Also, she has her own shoe line with Urban Outfitters, and went to the Crillon Ball this past November… I just want to travel back in time about 5 years so I can redo high school J. Aldridge style.

Favorite Designer: Alexander McQueen – it’s all so magic and elegant. But let’s be realistic – unless you’re SJP, there’s little chance of any of us mere mortals pulling off one of his runway looks.
Favorite Retail Line: Elizabeth and James. Or, wait, you mean things I can actually afford on my meager savings?
Favorite Piece in Your Wardrobe: Trapeze-style red corduroy jacket with hood, big brown faux-leather buttons, and cuffed sleeves. Effective at keeping me warm? Not so much. Adorable? Yes. Oh, and did I mention it has pockets? I love pockets.
Piece You are Currently Coveting: Boy by Band of Outsiders suspender skirt.
Favorite Beauty/Skincare Product: Sunblock (specifically Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock, not greasy at all!) as my mom had a bit of skin cancer a few years back (thankfully removed with little trouble). Not to get macabre or pedantic, but WEAR SUNSCREEN EVERY DAY! Or else.
It’s Friday night. Your phone rings. It’s Anna Wintour and she wants to take you to dinner. Quick, what do you wear?:
I’m assuming Cipriani, not Goodburger (although I really wouldn’t mind either). So I’d pair my black velvet A-line skirt, with a thick sateen waistband and lacy hem over the (super short) deep green, sleeveless Urban Outfitters dress with peter pan collar. Black pumps to complete the look. Summer or winter, this should work for a fancy Friday night dinner. That being said, I don’t know that I, or anyone else for that matter, will ever have the ability to please Anna on command.

There’s very little that is fashionable about DC. And when I say very little, I mean nothing. Pantsuits, black everywhere, a completely out-of-whack sense of appropriate clothing for the weather. At my school (GW), a typical outfit involves oversized sunglasses, oversized shirt, leggings and flip-flops. All. Year. Round. And hey, I personally have many days of jeans and a tee shirt, but I look to blogs like CHS to up the ante for myself. It takes some thought to put together a polished, classy, youthful outfit that will get me through the day’s events. I love documenting street fashion, showcasing the simple mistakes we all make that turn our outfits from chic to… something else. Take a girl on the street headed off to her Capitol Hill internship, change her outfit around, and show the late-teen/early-twenties readers what they’re doing wrong.
I would love to help bring the college student/intern perspective to this particular fashion outpost, because true style is scarce in this town.

Simple math: Likelihood of a girl going into fashion journalism in DC (aka my dream job) increases with more Capitol Hill Style in my life.
She seems perfectly nice and seems to have a sophisticated sense of style for a college student, but I think most CHS readers would prefer someone who is already in the working world. While I’ll admit that DC has some work to do in the fashion world, I’m a bit offended when she says that there is “nothing” fashionable about our city. You have to take some pride in your city and find the pearl in the rough!
Ok, I made my decision as soon I clicked the link to that skirt she says she’s coveting. Nay.
Dr. Jean and I have not agreed on a variety of recent posts. However, I must say. . . couldn’t have said it better. . . “Nay.”
Love her writing style — the best of all the potential interns yet. But her fashion post … not so much.
I just LOVE her subtle and sophisticated sense of humor! The irony of wearing a velvet skirt in July, then suggesting that other DC women don’t wear seasonally-appropriate outfits has me laughing so hard it hurts.

I really like that her taste is more out there/interesting/sophisticated than the rest/usual, and the girl can write. Unfortunately the sample post was just Belle redux. Can you get her to submit something more creative? I think her profile shows great promise.
I’m not a big fan of that skirt she is coveting. And anything with a hood can NOT be adorable, velvet skirts…eck…and a dress with a peter pan neckline? Perhaps I’m out of the fashion loop with these choices. Does anyone else agree?
She seems really cute and funny, but agreed with Dr. Jean and Southern Mom. Velvet skirt and her coveting item = nay.
Nay. I like that her style seems a little quirky but she turned me off by saying that DC has no style. Sorry, we do. We might not fawn over a $900 patchwork skirt but I think there are lots of stylish people in DC.

She’s not original, funny or insightful. I don’t like her sense of style. I also could never take seriously someone who claims that a black velvet A-line skirt is appropriate for the summer.

Velvet skirts CANNOT be worn year-round. FAIL.
I really like her writing style. And let’s face it, she’s got a point on the lack of style in DC. But she probably skews a little young for this blog (or at least for me 🙂
