Elena Kagan Takes Belle's Advice?

Jun 29, 2010

What do you think the odds are that Elena Kagan or one of her many Administration handlers reads here?

Why do I ask?

Well, last month, I posted this little ditty discussing the marked differences between how professional women of Kagan’s generation dress, and how professional women of my generation dress.  Basically I was making the argument that while Kagan was busy shattering the glass ceiling, she didn’t spend as much time thinking about her “look” as she should.  And I thought it was high time that she did something about it.

What did I think would fix the issue?

And like I said in the post, [her attire] has no effect on her [competence] as a jurist but I just think a little hair color, a tailor and a royal blue suit would go a long way. I’m certainly not trying to turn her into Barbie.

A warmed-up hair color complete with blowout.  Royal blue suit.  Coincidence?  I think not.

P.S. On a related note, large drop earrings only work if you have a defined jawline and bone structure.  Rounder faces (like mine, like Kagan’s) should stick to studs to lift the eye up.

During the hearing, she was asked if she would be in support of video cameras in the courtroom. She replied something to the effect of “Then I’d have to do my hair more often!” and something else that insinuated that she had done her hair for the hearing.
    Brilliant, your blog is working!

She definitely had some color done and little blow out, which is perfectly reasonable considering all the camera time. I think she pulled it off nicely although a different necklace, perhaps something with some more color and character would have been better. I would have like to see some diamond or CZ studs and a gold necklace with a meaningful pendant. Classy and personal.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
