Fiscally Feasible Fashion: On the Side of Bright

May 10, 2010

Many women believe that style only exists in the upper price points, but that simply isn’t true.  In fact, the true test of a women’s sense of style is whether she can turn inexpensive pieces into something fabulous.

This week, we’ll be making outfits out of pieces firmly in the unpaid intern price range with no outfit costing more than $250.  Today’s outfit is colorful, business casual, and perfect for an out-of-session Monday on Capitol Hill.

Ruched Pocket Cardigan (Forever21, $20)

Collared Cotton Shirt (MaxStudio, $48)

Emerald Crystal Necklace (Etsy, $40)

Daisy Fuentes Trousers (Kohl’s, $44)

Steve Madden Florale (6pm, $58)

That yellow cardigan really makes me wish I could wear yellow. It’s adorable!

  2. Emily says:

I’m an intern this summer. What makes this outfit business casual? What would make it business professional?

  3. Barbara says:

Really? Unpaid interns can spend $250 on an outfit? Wow, times really HAVE changed!

  4. Belle says:

This outfit costs $210, and it contains five pieces. The most expensive part of the outfit was $58.

Total up the price of everything that you’re wearing right now. How much did it cost? I’m wearing about $300 worth of stuff, but you don’t think of it that way because I didn’t buy everything at once.

  5. Anna says:

Really cute – I like the yellow & green combo.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
