Trendspotting: Wooden Purses

Stella McCartney Accordion Bag (Net-a-Porter, $2,045)

I love vintage handbags that are made out of unusual materials like Bakelite, Lucite, metal and wood.  They’re a great statement piece that allows you to accessorize an outfit without having to think to far outside of the box.  So when I saw this wooden accordion clutch by fashionista favorite Stella McCartney was selling for more than two-grand, I knew that I could recreate this trendy look for less.

Folding Carrying Basket (Etsy, $34)

This basket could be used as a purse or carried to the Farmer’s Market.  And since it can fold up and fit into your briefcase or messenger bag, it might be the perfect solution to DC’s bag tax.

Wooden Box Clutch (Etsy, $16)

Even though this clutch isn’t slotted or accordion style like, it still has a great vintage look.  I love the dark wood with that gorgeous patina and strong grain pattern.  Such a steal for less than $20.

Birdcage Purse (Etsy, $97)

This fabulous purse is the quintessential statement piece.  It’s half-moon shape gives this vintage bag a modern twist, and if you need a pop of color, you can tie a scarf around the handle.  This bag would be the perfect thing to carry to church on brunch when wearing a flirty summer dress.

The Stella M. bag is an architectural work of art. What a statement!

I realize this wasn’t the EXACT point of this post, but if you’re looking for a way around the bag tax, check this out – https://www.flipandtumble.com/shop.html. They compact into a little ball the size of a peach and will totally fit in your briefcase or bag! I love them. And besides, every once in a while, it’s really nice to have another bag right there when you need it.

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.

The Find: My Best Workout Shorts

For eight years, I have worn the same workout shorts. Every year, an influencer tries to sell me new shorts. I order them. I try them on. They pale in comparison to the shorts I already own. I return them.
