Spring 2010: Seeing Spots and Polka-Dots

Mar 23, 2010

Aside from floral prints and white eyelet, nothing evokes the essence of spring like polka dots.  These spots are both pretty and chic evoking memories of the Rockabilly dresses of the 1950s.  And what Pretty Woman fan could forget how elegant our street walker turned proper lady looked in her polka-dotted dress?  Yes, polka dots are definitely a warm weather staple, but the kind of polka dots you select really depends on your personality and needs.

Please prepare your eyes for the onslaught of dots…

Warm Polka Dots

Breezy Ride Cardigan (Anthropologie, $98)

How much do you love the sheer insets on the shoulders?  So cute if you need a warm sweater for a chilly office.

Flirty Polka Dots

O’Neill Dainty Dress (Zappos, $48)

For the girl who love being a girl and also likes having money to spend on things like food and shelter.

Classic Polka Dots

Paul & Joe Weave Dotted Dress (Net-a-Porter, $425)

Navy and white has to be the classic polka dot combination, and this dress would look good on someone 25 or someone 55.

Big Polka Dots (Okay, Really Big)

Muse Polka Dot Dress (Dillard’s, $148)

A bit Mod for me, but I know a few ladies who would love these dots.

Small Polka Dots

Jones New York Yacht Polka Dot ($99)

I love navy and red together.  So chic.  Definitely a great way to update the classic dotted sheath.

Bright Polka Dots

Kate Spade Tutti Frutti Dress (Nordstrom, $355)

I want this dress so badly that I have contemplated defrosting my Discover card in order to own it. But I worked my ass off to pay that card down to zero and I will not give in.  (Mom and Dad, that’s your cue to procure Belle’s b-day present a few months early.  And don’t pretend you don’t read here, cause I know you do.)

Faux Pas Polka Dots

Dotted Panel Dress (Forever21, $35)

You knew it couldn’t all be wine and roses, right?  This dress looks like Wavy Gravy and Pebbles Flinstone had a daughter.  Just disturbing.

Wavy Gravy and Pebbles!!!!! I almost fell of my chair laughing . . . and now my secretary thinks I am insane. Of course, she usually thinks that, so no biggy. Love, Love, Love the Paul and Joe dotted dress. Perfect for brunch or afternoon weddings.
    What shoes, though?

  2. Ms. B says:

Belle is back!!!! the last two days of posting have been fabulous.

  3. Belle says:

DCM58, I would do a nude pump to lengthen the leg or a red shoe or a kitten heel in a light metallic gold (no silver, too shiny).

  4. Belle says:

MS B–You’re Mom, you have to say that. And what are you doing wasting time here…get your ass downstairs and start begging Dad to buy me that dress! 😉 Every day it is not in my closet is one more day that my heart weeps in vain.

  5. Ms. B says:

Name the dress and I will attempt to make it yours. Bwahaha! MULE!

  6. Ms. B says:

Besides, how can I buy it for you when I want it myself. I could leave it to you in the will, or we could share it, as it is only appropriate for here 2 weeks a year.
