Fashion Week Highlights: Rebecca Taylor

Feb 16, 2010

One of my favorite designers is the flirty, feminine and fabulous Rebecca Taylor.  Taylor is one of only a handful of designers whose runway collections translate to Washington, D.C.  The two Rebecca Taylor combo dresses and the tweed jacket that I own are some of my favorite pieces.  This year, Taylor amped up the cosmopolitan rocker chic but still kept the look feminine and pretty.  Here are my five favorite looks from her Fall 2010 show.

I hope that those of you who invested in over-the-knee boots took good care of them because they were all over the runways, and the Rebecca Taylor show was no exception.  As for this look, I’m a sucker for a ladylike cape.  Frankly, a cape is magic.  You can put a camel cape over your pajamas and make them look elegant.

The architecture of this dress is really stunning.  I love the strong shoulder and the seamed shaping.  The dress is a bit futuristic and space age, but the color is such a soft robin’s egg blue that it’s still girly.

There was a lot of layering happening at this show.  In this look we have a silk, draw waist dress with a lacy, ruffled cardigan topped with a plum colored short jacket.  Personally, I love the ruffly cardigan.  I’m going to start saving now for when that comes on the market in September.

Let’s break this down.  Here we have a grey satin skirt with sequin fringe paired with a delicate dove grey blouse all worn under a chunky, heather knit.  This look is the perfect way to bring your evening look into the daytime.  Also, I love the monochromatic tones in this look, greys and greyish blues.  Keeping everything in one color palette really lets the textures and sparkle shine through.

Hear me on this: If you want to learn how to layer, flip through the slides from this show.  The way these clothes were layered was so creative and chic, it’s really more of a layering tutorial than fashion show.  Here we have another gorgeous robin’s egg blue piece paired with a sheer knit and what appears to be a leather mini-skirt.  Both ruffled and architectural, this jacket is just epic.  Yet another piece that I need to start saving up to own.

If you would like to see the rest of the Rebecca Taylor collection, visit Style.com.  The only thing that I didn’t like was the bowler hats, perhaps this is because I grew up in the era of Blossom and I cannot stand Diane Keaton.  But how can you not love a woman who embraces sequins for daytime?

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
