The Floor Report: Fringe Benefits

Jan 27, 2010

Looking for a way to beat the January blahs? Add a little sway to your swagger with fringe hanging off of everything from basics to beaded earrings.  These boho-chic fashions are bringing back the vibe of Woodstock on a big way.

Minnetonka Calf Hi-3 Layer Fringe Boot (Zappos, $79)

I work on my feet all day, and there’s nothing I love more than a flat boot that lends proportion and bit of bohemian flair to leggings and skinny jeans.  They’re also incredibly comfotable.  And look Belle, no shearling!

Leigh and Luca Tassled Scarf (Leigh&Luca.com, $168)

Everyone knows I amd a scarf hustler, a pusher really.  Scarves are the easiest way to add texture, interest, and color to an otherwise unfinished ensemble.  But these scarves by Leigh & Luca are extra special.

Fringed on the ends and created on looms over 100 years old, these scarves have the greatest patterns and designs.  Each comes with its own adorable sketched illustration of all the ways one could wear it or use it.  Cold at work? Need to be cozy on the plane? This scarf will solve all of your problems.  I love them and they are the perfect gift for a friend.

Penny Fringe Clutch (ShopBop, $277)

This clutch is the perfect statement size.  Big enough not to be overlooked and also easily holds cellphone, wallet, and makeup musts for day or a night out. It’s eco-friendly, fringy-fabulous in one package.

Haute Hippie Ostrich Mini-Dress (Saks, $595)

Ruffle your feathers and fringe with this ostrich feather and modal mini dress. An unexpected take on spring cocktail for the girlie-chic or rock glam gal.  Just add a beaded belt and dance the night away in style.

Blue Hand Crochet Earring (Ben-Amun, $95)

And if you just want to flirt with fringe, try a small accessory like these beautiful crochet fringe earrings.  Just put your hair up and let the earrings do the talking.  These are the perfect way to add a little punch to your regular wardrobe.

Miss M manages an upscale boutique in Bethesda.  Her weekly column The Floor Report appears here most Wednesdays, though sometimes she gets so caught up planning a wedding that she forgets.

Where are those earrings from? They’re really cute.

  2. Belle says:

I added that. Kind of important to know where you can buy them…

I’m sorry, Belle, but those fringed boots are even more hideous than UGGs, and oodles less professional. You rarely disappoint, but this is one bad call!

  4. Belle says:

I didn’t write this post. This was all Miss M who writes the Floor Report. I don’t edit her content.

  5. Chelsea says:

Thanks. I think I need the intern price range, though…

My apologies, Belle! Miss M, deep-six the fringed boots!

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
