10th Commandment: January 26

Jan 26, 2010

Yesterday’s burst of sunshine had me reaching for my sunglasses.  If you love to keep your eyes healthy and look cool in a pair of aviators, then you are in luck because you’re still on trend.  But if you want to go the extra mile this season, the hottest trend in sunglasses is leather trimmed aviators.  While this trend hasn’t yet reached the intern level it certainly will soon enough.

Elected Official

Cutler and Gross Leather Trimmed Aviators (Net-a-Porter, $480)

Chloe Tamaris Aviators with red leather trim (Net-a-Porter, $295)

Kensie Esther Tortoise Shell Sunglasses (Nordstrom, $50)

Like I said, leather isn’t down in the lower price points yet, but it will be.

Also, for those of you who like inexpensive sunglasses, a health warning.  Some makers claim that there sunglasses block UVA/UVB rays, but they lie.  I would recommend not buying sunglasses at Forever 21, Target or the like  unless they are a brand you know and trust.

The reason for this warning is that when you put on cheap sunglasses they shade your eyes causing your pupils to open wide.  Then, because they don’t block UV, more of the dangerous rays get into your inner eye and cause damage.  If you weren’t wearing the sunglasses, you’d be squinting and your pupil would dilate to protect the eye.  In other words, cheap sunglasses are more dangerous than no sunglasses at all.

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.

Too Many Tabs: April 19, 2024

This week, I fell mindlessly into my phone more than I think I ever have. My screen time went from 3.5 hours per day to 5 hours per day. But the increased eye strain did lead to some good finds. Just going to leave this right here.  (I really need to work on “Didn’t make […]

The Find: My Best Workout Shorts

For eight years, I have worn the same workout shorts. Every year, an influencer tries to sell me new shorts. I order them. I try them on. They pale in comparison to the shorts I already own. I return them.
