The Find: A Summer Sweater

May 18, 2026

This is the time of year when I forget how to dress myself. It’s cold in the mornings, hot in the afternoons. It might rain. It might be windy. It could be 80-degrees today, 55-degrees with a light drizzle tomorrow. The weather makes no sense, and I find myself changing clothes as frequently a toddler playing dress up.

Finding pieces that can survive a multitude of climates is the only way to survive April and May. So this top from Varley has come in really handy.

The Denny Knit Top with short sleeves and an open weave is a nice “Is it summer?” clothing option. You can wear it under a relaxed denim jacket in the morning with my favorite Athleta pants. You can wear it with a pair of great shorts and a tank.

I like that this sweater is breezy. I never feel too hot when I wear it. It looks cool and fashion forward on. I wore it to drop off last week, and I just threw on a baseball cap, Rothy’s loafers, and a pair of jeans and looked totally polished even though I hadn’t showered.

I have what may be a dumb question. Do you always wear this sweater with a tank under it? Or would you do it with a bra that closely matches your skin tone? I have almost the same sweater from Marine Layer. I’ve worn it layered over a tank dress, but I wondered if it would look good without a tank as the weather gets warmer.
