Fall Color Edit: Burgundy

Sep 17, 2024

This fall, I am determined to wear more color. Don’t get me wrong, I like black, but how I came to own so much of it is really anyone’s guess. And given that so many gorgeous colors are perfect for fall, I think now is a great time for a refresh. So let’s start with burgundy and a few beautiful wine-colored pieces that can bring a hint of autumn into even the darkest closet.

01. Burgundy Prints // Chantilly Paisley Blouse // This top is so gorgeous with hints of burgundy and purple.  It’s a subtle way to ease into fall color.  I would pair it with burgundy trousers (also in petite) or an a-line skirt to really drive the point home.

This blouse is from Tuckernuck, and in case you haven’t checked on your social media this morning, you probably haven’t seen that there’s a HUGE sale happening.  20% off $250, 25% off $500, 30% of $1,000.  These are larger amounts, but if you need a dress for a wedding, a baptism, a holiday party, this is the time to buy it.  I’m going to scroll through the sale tonight to pick up some new tops.

02. Leather Skirt // Reiss Raya Pencil Skirt // This gorgeous berry-hued skirt is deeply discounted, available in almost every size, and perfect for fall.  It is not to be missed at this price.  I’d pair it with this mauve cardigan.  Also available is this NYDJ skirt that comes in at <$50 and is also available in plus-sizes.

03. Burgundy Shoes // Nine West Arlene Pumps // These pumps are an absolute work classic.  They have the sleekest look and the perfect height heel for all day wear.  Toss in a Dr. Scholl’s insert and you are on your way.  Burgundy heels look amazing with chocolate brown, camel, grey and navy.  And don’t sleep on a pair of burgundy heels with an all ivory look.

Need something more comfortable?  Adidas has many burgundy sneaker options.  The classic loafer gets that burgundy glow up.  And don’t miss these incredible velvet flats from Birdies — I can testify that this brand’s shoes are just as comfortable as they claim to be.

04. Burgundy Sweater // Sea New York Pointelle Turtleneck // Pointelle — a knit pattern with tiny holes in it– is very hot this fall, and this Sea turtleneck sweater is the perfect way to wear it.  I adore how modern this feels, but feminine at the same time.  If you don’t love a turtleneck, it also comes in a scoopneck.

Need something more classic?  This Gap shrunken sweater is so lovely.  And Quince has their Mongolian cashmere in both misses and plus.

05. A Burgundy Handbag // J.Crew Embossed Top Handle // Ladylike and gorgeous, this bag is perfect for tossing in a carry on or work bag.  It’s also a great bag for date night or special occasions when you want a little more space.  If embossed isn’t your look, this $99 JW Pei bag is everywhere right now.

If you need something larger, Kate Spade has an amazing bag sans logo.  I also love the shape of this Rebecca Minkoff Darren bag.  I think it’s the much.better.much.cooler version of the Madewell bag that is everywhere right now.

Need a burgundy gateway drug that won’t break the bank?  Start with your manicure.  This fall, I’m bringing back Essie Wicked.
