The Range: An Updated Amazon Shop

Jun 12, 2023

As a working parent, I haven’t seen the inside of a store since 2022.  Everything is ordered for pickup or delivery.  And where do the bulk of my purchases (the baby formula, the face cream I just ran out of, the teeth-cleaning treats for the dogs, etc.) come from?  Amazon.  Don’t even get Kyle started on the piles of cardboard that he needs to breakdown for recycling each week.

So last week, when I was forced to watch a Stanley Cup game that I could have cared less about, I decided to put that boredom to good use and update my Amazon Shop.  Finally, a repository for the products that keep my household (and my life) functioning.  Here are some highlights.

My Fashion and Beauty Buys // Thanks to motherhood, I have officially reached the place where I buy my clothes at the same store where I buy diapers and snacks.  So I started updating with the best clothes and beauty products that I’ve purchased through Amazon.

From the best hiking/workout shorts ever made to the dress I wear too often and the best work pants I’ve ever owned, these are some of my most-loved items.  As for beauty products, I added my favorite face sunscreen, the best under-eye brightening concealer ($10!), and the hot rollers that I have used every day since I was 14. They are my longest relationship.

My Best Maternity Purchases // From the supplies I needed to survive IVF to the clothes I wore while pregnant, I’ve added all of my pregnancy must haves to the shop.  So if you need a cream to help you avoid stretch marks, a t-shirt that can be worn before and after baby, or a dress that looks beautiful and is comfortable for date night, it’s all here.

My Best Purchases for Baby // Several of you have asked for access to my baby registry.  We used Babylist to create our registry.  It let us choose items from all of the stores — Nordstrom, Target, Amazon, etc. — and put them in one place.  And it let us know when an item had been purchased and by whom.

As for what I put on the list, the amount of things a newborn to 3-month old needs can quickly overwhelm you. I took a minimal approach to creating my registry, and asked other family members and friends for gift cards to fill in the gaps later. There is not one extra item on the list.

In my Amazon shop, our registry is broken into two parts: Baby Sleep Essentials and the rest of our Baby Registry.

Yes, we bought the Snoo.  Yes, we loved it and would likely not have survived without it.  Yes, it was expensive.  BUT … we bought it on the Father’s Day Sale, so it was 25% off.  And then, once Sloane grew out of it, we sold it for 4/5ths of what we paid for it.  So buying was cheaper than renting one.

Beyond that, my best Registry purchases have been this car seat that is also a stroller (so convenient), every two-way zip onesie, this charming book that is my very favorite, and this machine that makes a perfectly heated formula bottle in seconds.

Already past the newborn-registry phase?  Sloane is nine-months now, so I created a separate board for everything we’ve bought and loved since.  The board heroes are this short-sleeve onesie for summer and this great stain-removing spray.  And I added one last board for all of the items we’ve bought to make the transition from formula to solid foods.

The Rest of the Boards // I’m still updating the shop so I can use it as a reference in future.  But the other boards worth mentioning are my favorite home items, the books I’ve read and loved, and the best things I’ve purchased for work.  So if I’ve ever recommended a product, you can probably find it here.

If you have a must-try Amazon product, leave it in the comments.  I’m always looking for a new recommendation.

This is very helpful, thank you! I’m apologizing in advance to my bank account.

You don’t have to justify the Snoo and anyone who criticizes your purchase should shut their mouth. Adequate sleep is priceless. Particularly in the first year of motherhood when lack of sleep will slow your physical recovery and jeopardize your mental health. We’re all so glad the Snoo worked for you!

Would you consider doing a tutorial on the rollers? My hair dresser suggested I try them because they’re a low-heat way to add some style but I just can’t figure out how to do it without the volume falling flat within an hour. Have looked at Youtube etc. but your hair always looks good, teach us your ways!

“As a working parent” is a great opener. I gave up the phrase “working mom” a few years ago. No one, not one person in eight years, has called my husband a “working dad.” Let’s normalize “working parent!”
